How ethical is Mutant to use this guy as a marketing figure head for their supplements, in light of his cosmetically tempered physique? It might be a different situation to other supplement firms who use pro bodybuilders where the main exogenous factors outside of the supplements that contribute to their physiques are steroids and genetics. you can say that about any supp really.
Frank McGrath got that big from using Animalpak? Not likely.

Minus the pmma thought I mean it’s like any other sponsered athlete right? Subway didn’t get Michael phelps or apollo ono the gold metals

I realize I’ll catch some heat for this, since nobody asked and it’s beside the point, but doesn’t anybody else think he’s just kind of a blurry blob?
I mean, he seems like a good guy. And he’s not a competitor and and he’s fucking huge and yada yada, but his arm is just one, thick entity.
I’m not trying to shit on the guy at all, it just doesn’t look aesthetic at all. I’m sure it’s partially the tats as well but he has like no definition other than his abs and upper back. And yeh, again this is beside the point and has nothing to do with the thread at all, but it just seems weird nobody has mentioned it yet.
No heat here.
Your post actually is in line with my original post. He never reached the upper echelon in bodybuilding and he is aware of his limitations but yet he managed to design his life so that he can lead the lifestyle he wants and make money in the fitness industry, similar to what Ron Harris, Dante, CT, Trevor Smith, John Roman, Dave Palumbo, and some others have done.
You’re right though: he doesn’t have aesthetics and his arms are… eh… I don’t even know what’s going on with them. I’ve read he has PMMA in his arms. It also appears he’s done some other cosmetic alterations to himself, for which he gets a lot of crap. It’s all fine by me though; as I said, he seems like a sincere and generous guy and his work is pretty inspirational.
I think you misunderstood, my bad. I obviously acknowledge the products these boydbuilders promote usually isn’t a material factor in explaining their size but Rich Piana seems to go beyond the mold of sponsered athletes in that he’s almost a caricature with all the cosmetic stuff he’s had done.
But yeah, I see Myosin’s point - can can you expect any greater ethical standards if the primary ones don’t even exist.

oh right yeah I see what you’re saying. He does seem to take it to the extreme
It’s not just bodybuilding you see it in though, it’s all marketing for everything. Airbrushed chicks in make up adverts, photoshopped dudes on the front of Men’s Health
you just gotta see through the bull and keep a healthy level of skepticism
As Myosin said, ethics went out the door a long time ago. Has anyone even paid attention to the behaviors and life choices of even some of our beloved top bodybuilders?
Jesus this pic makes it look like Jay is a well built guy who might have played some ball in college. I kid but it is still weird to see them side by side knowing how big Jay really is.
OP, funny you posted this. I recently started watching his videos and have applied some of his training philosophies amd seem immediate gains. What I like about him is that he has a good way of articulating things when he speaks.

This. I like the fact that he seems eloquent in his manner of delivery when he talks. Kai, while I like his philosophy at times, simply rambles a lot. Jay was very vanilla and Ronnie sounded dumb (that may be a stereotype but it’s true). Most other bodybuilders simply curse a lot (Branch and Jonnie come to mind). So it’s nice seeing a guy who is well spoken in his videos.

Would you mind elaborating? On the training methods I mean.

I agree with you. Seems like a pretty smart, and level headed business man. I also love Jay but yes he is almost boring at times, but I am pretty calm and probably a little boring so probably why I like Jay lol. Branch is cool, and Kai I like but ya he gets a little long winded.

100 rep drop sets, training arms 2x week using much lighter weights-focusing on squeezing the muscles and staying in the 15-20 rep ranges. These are all new things for me to try I am a former powerlifter and all I can say is that since I have been taking his advice i have been seeing drastic improvements.
If you think that works read up on articles by John Meadows. He essentially recommends that kind of training, in addition to utilising unconventional exercises.
I met Rich at the Mr.O Expo and he’s a very nice guy. But I must say, standing next to him was kinda unreal! He is so big it’s hard to explain…the arms are like normal peoples legs if not bigger…!
Meeting him and Flavio Baccianini with less than a hour apart was strange to say the least!!! Both well trained pro’s with Flavio being about the size of Rich’s arm…It was special alright!
Theres definitely synthol in those arms, or something else going on there. But at the end of the day, even if the guy is a tool with his tribal tats and tricked out cars, you have to respect the hell out of him.
Hes a monster, regardless of any questionable things that have been done to his arms, and hes 41 years old too. He’s financially successful, and made his own money in real estate and then of course with sponsors and im sure he is one hell of an expensive personal trainer.
On top of all this, he’s doesnt preach anything in his videos that every bodybuilder shouldnt listen to. Very positive and educated when it comes to this stuff.
