Revolution is My Name

Sheiko Day 2, Gym

This session wasn’t as tough as the last one. Something about squatting twice just really blows. I felt stronger through this one and maybe the fact that I was ready for it to take 3 hours, I didn’t worry about the time.

Deadlift:
Sumo:
135x5x1
150x4x1
Conventional:
180x4x1
210x3x2
240x3x3
240x2x1 → missed the 3rd rep and almost broke my knees when I dropped the bar just before lockout. Instead I just skinned them.
240x3x1

Bench Press:
65x6x1
75x5x1
90x4x2
95x3x2
100x2x2
95x3x2
90x4x1
80x6x1
75x8x1
65x10x1

DB Flies
10x10x5 → these feel really great at opening my chest up

Deadlift to Knees:
150x4x1
180x4x1
210x4x5

Good Mornings:
45x10x5

The deadlift to knees were awkward at first…until I figured out that I shouldn’t be thinking of them as a different movement. They are still a deadlift.

From the begining of mobility to the end of my bike/stretch, this took 3 hours. Both rounds of deadlifts felt like they went by quickly (even though they didn’t) because there were people that I liked around. The benching was just painful.

Speaking of benching… I was sitting there with my head down, headphones on and some dude comes and stands right in front of me. I take out an earbud and he says “Miss, do you mind helping me out between your sets?”. I figured he needed a spot and I’m asked a fair bit so said it was fine as long as he didn’t call me ‘miss’ again.

So I walk over to where he’s on a decline bench and he’s doing decline db press with fucking 90lb dumbells. He wanted me to lift them up and set them in his hands for him so he could start his set.

I helped him for his first set and basically had to deadlift (again) each of the DBs from the floor. One of the bigger guys nearby went up to him after that set and must have said something to him because he didn’t ask me for help again and this guy just plucked them up off the ground and into his hands for his remaining sets.

The best part is, when he first asked me I only had 75lbs on my barbell! For all he knew I couldn’t even lift 90lbs!

I’m heading to Nashville in the morning with my mom to check out Vandy. Should be a good time. We’re doing all sorts of touristy stuff tomorrow heehee.

I’m also slowly trying to DL sumo…or at least try it out. I actually want to work with some of the Niagara guys again to get some help on form. Since I used it for the light weights today it came up easily, but I felt like my weight was super far forward.

My coach and I DL sumo, and always have, if you want any pointers or have any questions.

My sister, a dietitian, did her intership at Vanderbilt. I don’t have to tell you it is an exceptionally fine school.

Even without the Country Music reputation Nashville is a fun, vibrant, happening place.

Please allow me a tiny little rant, since I’ve seen one or two on your log:

What comes out of Nashville and is called “country music” is just poorly redone 70’s classic rock with a Southern twang. I, personally, call it “cheerleader music.” Real Country Music comes out of Texas these days. Nashville, believe it or not, has a thriving rock scene.

Back to Court: I know you have several fine schools to choose from; I’m wishing you the very best of fortune with whichever choice you make.

I don’t understand why that took 3 hours. Are you on quaaludes or something?

Seriously, that is some kick ass volume.

Have a great weekend with your mom.

So I’m back from nashville and today I got back into the gym. Damn did all the weights feel heavy! I benched, squatted and benched again. I’d post the workout, but I’m too lazy to find my book. I think I left it in my car anyways.

In more important news, I finally decided which school I’m going to. And not a moment too soon considering one of the deadlines is Thursday. I’ll be heading to the warmth of the west coast and the California sunshine. For me, myself and I. Having Bartl around is certainly an added bonus, however I feel that school just suited me and my personality more. I will be happier and more able to be myself which will be important for me to suceed.

Now I just have to deal with my depressed mama who’s sad that her only daughter is moving to the opposite coast. I know in her heart she wanted me to go to Nashville since it’s only a 2 hour flight. Instead, I likely won’t see her until Christmas after I move out there. Oh well. I’m a big girl. Time to move on in my life

Congrats on making the choice, that should be a lot less to think about now.

Congrats on the decision!!

AWESOME!!!

Congrats, Court!

Congrats on making your decision. I’m sure it’ll work out brilliantly for you, and the Cali weather is fantastic. Good for you.

Yay, Court! Cali does suit you.

Congrats Court!! PLEASE don’t move out there to the land of sunshine and get soft on us! You’ll have to come back to Canada to visit at some point and then ourboro_s and DianaB will put you in the squat rack and try to exploit whatever weakness they think you might have developed. You gotta stay tough, stay mean, and be ready to show them who’s still boss whenever you come back home to get your snow fix.

Of course, ourboro_s will probably miss you so much that she’ll make the ultimate offering upon your return home. She’ll offer to let you participate in one of her Saturday Morning “Tim Horton’s beat downs” where she just beats the ever loving shit out of some innocent, unsuspecting customer who she claims wronged her in some way.

By then, however, she’ll probably just “hold the bitch down” while her daughters stomp her and come across her head with a monkey wrench!

Oh, by the way, did I tell you congratulations; I’m proud of you and excited for this next big step in your life? Great goin’, young lady!!!

Im proud of you too Court. Now I will have you all to myself!

Thank you everyone for the congrats  I’m sure I will be very happy.

It will definitely help having Chris around to help me move stuff, get settled in Cali, cuddle me when school stresses me out and make sure I keep lifting heavy shit and eating healthy food. Oh, he’ll be cooking for me on the weekends too! After all, that’s what boyfriends are for right?

Exactly right

congrats on the decision!

Thursday, Feb 12, Gym

So today I finally felt good again. I’ve been PMSey which means my lifts suffer because I have no energy and am a weak little girl. Today I finally felt energetic and strong.

I needed it! It took me 2 hours today including my mobility warm up, however I ended up spotting one of my friends through most of his lifts and we chatted a bit, so I took longer than I needed to. I also talked to a guy afterwards about my meet, so the actual training probably only took 75-90min.

Deficit Deadlifts
(Did these off an aerobic step base thingy)
135x4x1
145x3x1
170x3x2
185x2x4

Bench Press
65x5x1
75x4x1
90x3x2
100x2x3
95x3x2
90x4x1
75x6x1
65x8x1

Was supposed to do Flies or DB Presses, but opted for pullups/chins instead:
Pullups - BWx3, BWx2
Chins - BWx5, BWx4, BWx4

I know these are pathetic, but I’m determined to get them better! lol

Deadlifts
145x4x1
170x4x1
200x3x2 belt on 2nd set
230x3x5 belt

Good Mornings
95x5x5

I deadlifted sumo today for all of my sets. It felt much better and more natural than last week when I tried it. I find it alot more difficult to break off the floor, but once it does, the bar just flies up much quicker than conventional. I’m thinking with some more practise my speed off the floor will improve.

I’m starting to love deadlifting as much as I love squatting. I think because lately my hips have been super tight so it has hurt to squat. I had ART done last night (he had his hands down my shorts heehee) and apparently some nerve that goes through/near my hips was all messed up and pressure was being put on it.

This was causing pain in the hips and all down the inner part of my legs to my knees. I swore at him quite a bit. I think it brought us closer lol. I then had an hour massage this morning and she worked on my tight hamstrings and my shoulder (which has once again started bothering me under the squat bar).

I plan on using up my year’s worth of extended health benefits in the 8 months I’m working before school this year

Oh so the guy I was spotting tonight overheard a conversation between some dude and this chick (who I’d never seen before). I had just started my second round of deads and had 145 on the bar. The chick says to her guy friend "Oh wow.

That girl is deadlifting so much weight!". He replies “She’s a powerlifter”. We had a bit of a laugh over it because I had 145 on the bar…

I’m finally at my working sets and the last few are tough. She comes up to me after and asked how I got to be able to lift so much weight (yes, it was worded that awkwardly as well). I told her I just started training and lifting more and more each week. She told me she heard that if a girl lifted heavy she would look like a guy but that it must not be true cuz I look really feminine. I just sort of smiled/laughed and said it definitely wasn’t the case.

She asked if I would mind showing her how to squat or deadlift next time she saw me at the gym cuz she gasp wasn’t getting “more toned” with just cardio and thought lifting weights might help. I told her it would definitely help and that I wouldn’t mind at all. So maybe I’ve got a converter on my hands! yay me!

Oh and ouro, nobody really pissed me off today and I wasn’t even bitchy to anyone…

That’s really cool. It sounds like you had a good workout. You must have felt 10’ tall being admired by another girl. Guys are one thing 'cause they’re always staring anyway but when other women admire you, it’s like it really counts.

It would be good to be able to help her out. I’m sure she’ll do what you say. She doesn’t sound too bright. Afterall, she said you look feminine.

I’m running and hiding now.

I’m glad you’re feeling better.
