Revolution is My Name

My hand hurts.

And I’m having a fat day.

Only it’s not like I ‘feel’ fat. It’s just that I’ve managed to put on 5lbs in the last 2.5 weeks. But in that same time period I’ve lost inches around my torso area and gained a bit in my quads/biceps.

It’s just frustrating because I told myself once I saw 155 that I’d really cut back and watch my diet so I wouldn’t get fat again. But wtf is going on with me?

My boys (aka Bartl, Sayjin and Todd) have all commented around some of it being water retention. So I’m going to attempt to drown myself over the next 2-3 days and see if that helps.

End whining.

alcohol consumption can do that to ya!

god you sound like me whining in my Clinic.

If you look better naked than you did 2.5 weeks ago and/or feel better about your body than you did 2.5 weeks ago, who gives a shit what the scale says?

Its all in your mind.

get over it and move on.

speaking of which, now that you eclipsed your goal (which I predicted you would way before your original goal date), what is next for Miss Congeniality?

Ya…well your cat’s breath smells like cat food (or dog in your case). Speaking of which, give Baker some love from me please?

I prefer Queen Congeniality, but I’ll let it slide this time. At any rate, I’m thinking towards the end of September I’m going to throw 225 back on and see how many good reps I can do. Then it’s v-diet time. Then there’s a few other things in the works I’m thinking of that will be shared at a later date. If you behave and give me some real love instead of this tough-love crap, I may tell you about them.

Oh and I learned my whining from the best

I hate Todd. Like without a doubt, I hate him. Hear that Todd? I. Hate. You.

I did Vomit-and-Passout day again last night at the gym. And again, both were very close to occurring. I wrapped my hand up, put myself in a bad mood and went to it. This session is actually worse than the leg sessions he had me going through to ‘show me I was tough’ before my half-marathon.

Afterwards I biked for 20 minutes while the pukey feeling subsided. In the 63 minutes from start to finish, I drank almost 3L of water and my shirt was drenched. There’s this regular we always poke fun at for soaking through his shirts and I told him last night I was giving him a run for his money. After my split squats it felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest. At any rate, here it is:

A. Leg Press - 4x15 90s rest - 180lbs + sled
B. Bulgarian Split Squats - 4x 5x5 90s rest - 30lbs
C1. DB Squats - 3x12 0s rest - 15lb DBs
C2. Leg Extensions - 3x12 0s rest - 45lbs
C3. BW Squats - 3x25 60s rest.

I used my straps (well on my right hand anyways) for my DB squats because at that point I didn’t want to have an excuse to stop. I got over my ‘pride’ of wearing straps to hold a 15lb DB and did it anyways.

I have a question. Would you EVER take off your shoes while stretching on the very public mats after your workout? When someone else is already there? Mr. Muscles did legs last night, then came over, sat beside me on the mats and proceeded to take of his shoes. Gross. It may have been to mask the odour coming from me, but still.

You hate everybody when you workout. I could offer you a protein shake and a cookie and you’d be mad because my I didn’t bring milk too.

What’s your point? I can hate whoever I want. Since tomorrow is my deadlifting day and I plan on dropping weights on your fake head, maybe tomorrow I’ll hate you. How’s that? Feel better, more loved and included? haha.

Workout yesterday…vertical push/pull:

A. Assissted Pullups - 4x5 60s rest.
B. Push Press - 4x6 60s rest. 22.5 lbs
C1. UG Pulldown - 3x12 0s rest. 60 lbsx1, 55 lbsx2
C2. DB Laterals - 3x12 0s rest. 5 lbs
C3. Upright Rows - 3x12 60s rest. 30lbs
D. Tricep Pressodwn - 2x6/12/25 60s rest. 70/35/20

Rants:

  1. I am NEVER EVER EVER going to the gym at 530 again. I went early because I was meeting up with my two closest girlfriends for dinner. And man was the weight area packed. I didn’t have to wait for equipment or anything, but there were just people everywhere. I felt like I was tripping over them.

  2. Why does this one guy insist on doing DB curls, reverse curls, etc with 20lb DBs not even 6 inches from the DB rack? They’re really not that heavy. Take two steps back so I can get my damn dumbbells.

  3. There’s this guy… with his hair spiked he comes up to about my eyes (and I’m only almost 5’7). He’s pretty muscular/built (at least his upper body). Last night it was the gun show for him. Fine. But he was carrying around a tupperware container with chalk in it and using it for his cable curls (ok?). He then put it on again when he was doing tricep dips between two benches with his feet elevated. He had a little “helper” who was putting 3 45lb plates on his stomach when he did these. I have never heard someone scream/grunt as much as this guy. And referring to number 1 above, the gym was packed. He looked like a douchebag. Is this small-man syndrome?

  4. So one of my friends was at the gym tonight and I went to say bye to her when I left. She was in the women’s only area doing some ab work. She’s tall, thin, very pretty, great legs. I walk in and these two women in their late 30s or so are sitting on the “sex muscle” machines (hip abductor and it’s opposite) talking very loudly, almost snarling: “I don’t understand why GIRLS feel it’s necessary to wear such short shorts at the gym. I mean shouldn’t they be here to workout?”. I give them a funny look but continue over to where my friend is.

She stands up to talk to me and says “Those two bitches have been talking about me for the last 5 minutes about how I’m wearing short shorts. These aren’t even that short” (they weren’t… the ones I’m wearing in my squat videos are shorter). So, given that I was in a bit of a fiesty mood (per usual), I say extremely loudly “It’s okay sweetie, they’re just mad because you don’t have cellulite all over your legs and they do so they’re not comfortable wearing short shorts”. I then smiled sweetly at them when they tried to evil glare me. I then walked out (past them again) and looked in their direction and said “Have a great workout”.

Apparently they started whispering once I left with looks of disgust on their faces. I was highly entertained.

  1. As a result of 1 - 4 above, I think I’m going to start using a barbell as a weapon.

  2. There are no tall men in Toronto. I was walking around outside and in the underground today to give my eyes a break over lunch. I usually wear flats, but today I have my heels on (2 inches or so). There were maybe 3 guys in total that I passed who were CLEARLY taller than me. And once you’re about the 6’-6’1 mark, I can tell you are taller than me when I’m in heels. Seriously. Where have all the tall men gone?

So I’ve been a relatively quiet lurker for a while, but now that I officially have my next goal, I’ve decided to post my log to get there. No, despite the thread name, I do not want to weigh 225… but that’s what I want to squat by September 30th. Prior to January, I had never ventured over to the “boys” side of the gym - however now, I love being one of the few girls over there and I love lifting. So much so that since I ran my half-marathon in May, I’ve had zero desire to do cardio (except some HIIT) and now lift 4-5 times a week.

So a bit of background… I was always ‘in shape’ growing up due to sports. Played tons of volleyball, soccer and ran track. University came and I met alcohol and relationship weight and by last July was 175lbs and a size 12 (this picture is from Dec 06, just a little smaller than July 07). When my size 12 work pants were getting tight, it hit me - I hated being like that. I wasn’t as confident as I used to be, and I certainly hated having to position my face ‘just so’ in order to try to minimize the double chin look, so I cleaned up my diet and played soccer all summer and (very irregularly) jogged. I’d lost 20lbs and was ‘almost’ a size 8 as of December.

That’s when my best friend got me back into the gym and running and I decided I was going to begin my quest of running a marathon by doing a half in a nearby town in May. I had my last “hoorah” in Cuba with my family over Christmas, then buckled down. I enlisted the help of my friend Todd to build some weight lifting programs as well as nutrition breakdowns for me and went to it. Getting there I went through some pretty high highs and some pretty low lows. I realized just how ‘tough’ I am and how much I can push myself through. There was a point about 3 weeks before my race when I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to do it.

I strained both of my hamstrings in one workout and on the following week’s long run, it felt like someone was taking a sledgehammer to my knee. I reached out to Bartl as I knew he was going through some of the same things in his Physique Clinic as he prepped for his Tri. He had some great advice and I went into my half KNOWING I could do it, even though I didn’t run at all in the 7 days leading up to it. On May 11th I finished my half marathon (almost in tears and with an unbelievable amount of pain in my knee) in just over 2 hours.

Since December I’ve lost only 5lbs, but have replaced a lot of fat with muscle, as I’m now sitting comfortably at a size 6 (which I haven’t been in close to 6 years). I’ve never been one to care about scale weight and track my measurements more closely (although I’d love to sit below 150). After my half, I tried a few different things, but started to get bored. I felt like I had nothing to work towards and I’m a very goal oriented person. After talking with Bartl and Todd, it was decided that I will be squatting two plates by September. And will have video to share :D.

With this log, I’ll track my progress, my workouts, as well as some ranting, raving and random thoughts to keep it interesting. Feel free to add in any advice or encouragement, or if I’m being down and a lazy ass, tell me to suck it up and hit the gym to train.

I’ll post tonights training likely tomorrow from work.

Edit: As I was browsing for that pic, I cringed. That person is gone like it’s nobody’s business. Can’t believe I actually posted it. Ah![/quote]

Granted I just read that you wanted to get up to a 225 lbs squat.

Here is your solution:

I honestly can tell you that there isn’t a program on earth that will improve a novices squat numbers better than starting strenght. Look it over, its made for you

Hey Kensai,

A little late to the party  I hit 235 last week and am doing some spine deloading now. I have confidence in my trainer and what we’ve been able to accomplish thusfar, but thanks for the program.

I heard a really entertaining quote today while talking to a friend. Clearly we were talking about males.

“Play a little hard to get and they come salivating after you like the dogs that they are.”

Noted.

(Oh and no offense intended to my male readers and/or male friends. I’m sure none of you are dogs).

I know I’m no dog.

Me either.

maybe so!

I love reading about your gym adventures, lol…

awww, what cute animals!

Bones,

Do they meet the following criteria that my best friend has so graciously created for me:

25-30 (maybe 31), 6’ish, athletic, lifts, can put me in my place when required, funny, intelligent. Oh and of course I must find him undeniably sexy.

Is that too much to ask for? Apparently not per my friend
