I tried reverse grip bench today for the first time and i really like it i felt it a lot more in my triceps then close grip, way more. Anyways when i got to my heavy set around 225 it felt like the bar was going to fall right out of my hand! Then my partner tried 275 and it fell out of his hand and landed on him.
So i was just wondering if anyone has methods to stop this from happening, i was thinking possibly chalk or straps?
what about doing it in the smith machine?
Take a look at where the bar contacts the body. Usually the issue you describe is the result of touching to high on the chest. The elbow path should be close to the body and most lifters have to touch lower than their normal point during the reverse grip flat press. When I am positioned correctly they feel a bit like a decline press. ‘Celtic C’ has posted about using the smith machine for this movement and I liked them on that station.
Um, are you using a suicide grip? Chalk?
I used it with just a barbell and i brought it to the very bottom of my chest and I didn’t use a suicide grip either but ill try the chalk
Do them how this guy does them-
I would send meat a PM if I were you, the guy can do 500+ with a reverse grip.
don’t take “reverse grip” too literally. the grip isn’t actually reversed. your hands should point towards the plates and the bar should rest right in the middle of your hand. i lay the bar right in the crease of my hand. i then wrap my fingers around the bar.
