How do I take the bands off without the bar flying all over the place?
bench ? squat ? deadlift ?
in a rack I presume ?

Deadlift.
I’ve been stripping the bar one plate off each side at a time while putting the weight clips on to keep everything secure. Then I clean the bar to the to the holders I have set at E.
It works sometimes but for whatever reason it often ends with one side tipping over.
I’m not trying to get myself or anyone else smashed in the face. Its almost happened a couple times…other times have come close to shattering a mirror.
Id like to know the proper way to remove bands for all three lifts.
Sorry I have never used bands personally, but I was just thinking: Is the tension too great for you to leave the bar loaded and unhook the band from the rack first? I didn’t know if you would be able to maybe get something to step up on and just pull one band off the rack and then the other without unloading the bar first.
Maybe it is too tight for you to do that way, but just a thought.
EDIT: Or maybe you could like put a couple plates or blocks on the floor and set the weight up on those so that the bands had less tension and then remove them?
isnt the band tension completely deloaded when the bar is in the hooks ?
edited…
you doubling the bands ? or using shorts ?

That thought never crossed my mind because I am a shorter person. I will try it today.
Thanks.

Yea the tension of off while its in the hooks.ii have no problem there. Its getting the bar to the hooks that is the problem sometimes.
if you’re hanging the bands from a pin , you can dis-engage tension at the pin first . if you’re choking the bands around the rack frame , then you gotta dis-engage at the bar first…like you stated .
I guess Im not getting why there’s so much tension when the bar is in the hooks . I do DLs like you said…strip down to 225 , lift the bar into hooks . at that point there’s very little tension , so I just stretch the band around the plates and Im good to go .
never mind . crossed in the mail
simple… plates on first then bands. then you simply take the bands off to change plates and no more “in your face” action. That’s what I do.
for deads i usually put a plate on the bar, on a medium rack height, put the bands over it, maybe around stomach level so that its not much tension at all as it will be above ur dl lockout height. Then i add plates, usually up to 3 a side, walk it out, then put it down. Should rest on the ground pretty easily with the right weight, then u can keep adding more plates.
When im done, i strip it to the 3 plates, rerack(should be super light comparatively), take off the bands, then the weights.
did that make anysesnse?
Okay, try and use this mental picture.
If you’re deadlifting in a full power rack (which I’m assuming you are), then set the j-cups to where they are even with your deadlift lockout. So when you strip the plates down to 135, just walk the bar into the j-cups and take them off from there. Since the bands will be completely deloaded, they should be loose enough to just take from out on the bar and out of the rack.

Thanks y’all
I got em off no problem today. I stood on the bench I was using and unhooked from the pegs up top.
