Knowing you, that promise will last less then 24 hours. :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, more like 12 hours!

And I noticed you are backing off the broomstick hold. Is that because your shoulder is giving you problems?

I was hoping it would be easy on your shoulder girdle. I am tight but not in pain, so I can’t tell.

Oh, I’ve been doing it. The broomstick stretch isn’t something I keep track of, as I just do it a few times throughout the day. It does kind of bother me at times though. In fact, I think I might have overdone it with the stretching in general.

There’s a definite sore spot on my chest and upper bicep that I think is from too much SMR and stretching on those areas. There’s no bruising though. I’m trying to ice it more. I don’t want to continue to overdo it, but at the same time there are exercises and things that make it feel better, so I want to continue to do those things.

The pain in my shoulder comes at goes at the moment. Right now, if I do a standing external rotation, I feel no pain, but there’s still a small pop. This is an improvement from even just a few days ago. The pop occurs just before my forearm is perpendicular to the ground. When I rotate my arm down, it pops again just before the forearm is parallel to the ground.

I’ll ask my good friend who is a physical therapist, just to get an opinion.

I want to say it is your scapula but this is not my specialty. I’ll let you know what he prescribes.

Lower the broomstick frequency to 3x a week, tops, and on non-consecutive days. At least for now.

Do you think the DMSO or even cissus will help with the shoulder?

Thanks. Let me know what if they tell you anything. I’m starting to think it’s a scap problem now too. I do notice I get some random pinching in the scap area, so I’m sure there’s some issues there that may be the true cause of the shoulder prob.

I was thinking of making a post in either EC, MR or TGs Locker Room threads, but I don’t want to spam all 3 of their threads, so I’m trying to decide who’d be best to post that to.

The DMSO and Cissus seems to have really helped with my knee, but it hasn’t really done much with my shoulder.

Wedneday 11/26 - More crap.

I did the usual SMR, but really focused on the tender spots on the scap, lower traps and real delt. My shoulder felt pretty good after doing this. Then I did some additional band traction, which also felt pretty good.

Supine 1-arm dumbbell protraction: 12 x 15, 15 x 15,15,15 - I could do these just fine with my left side, but my right side is so messed up, I hard a hard time even doing them at all. It wasn’t due to pain, but just an inability to properly move the shoulder and scap. There’s clearly a lot of disfunction there.

No money drill - 10,12,12,12

Scaption with shrug - 10 x 10,10,10,10 - These felt interesting. I wanted to try the overhead shrug, but I didn’t want to introduce too many new exercises at once. Especially when I didn’t feel like I was doing any of them correctly.

Prone internal rotation - 5 x 12,12,12,12 - I’m not sure I did these correctly either, but I felt all kinds of stuff working when I did them.

Then I tried to do these:

20 x 12,12,12,12 - I should have watched the video before I left for the gym because I KNOW I didn’t do these right.

Anyway, more stuff to play around with as my shoulder recovers. All of these movements made my shoulder feel better, so I’ll have to keep doing them until I’m pain free.

Those Youtube shoulder things would garner me a lot of strange looks. Perhaps that means I need to try them.

Sunday 11/30 update: I’m falling apart.

So the past few days have been pretty rough. My back for some reason has been really sore since Wednesday. I don’t think I did anything to my back, but it’s just sore. It’s like the feeling you’d get after maybe sleeping on a bad couch or something. The good news is there that it felt okay this morning.

Also, on Wednesday night, I wasn’t paying attention and kicked my end table walking into the kitchen. My left pinky toe and side of my foot was pretty black and blue and sore from that. That’s feeling better though. The pinky toe is still a little black and blue, but it doesn’t hurt to the touch any more. Perhaps the Cissus supplementation helped here.

On Saturday afternoon, I gave blood like I normally do every eight weeks. However, this time I think the girl taking the blood was new or something, because here’s some swelling in my bicep and bruising. It hurts to the touch at the moment. This has never been a problem when giving blood in the past, so I think she might have messed up a little bit with the needle.

The good news is that my shoulder is feeling better. It’s just the rest of me that’s not doing too hot at the moment. Speaking of the shoulder, I thought this was a good read regarding my shoulder pain:

http://www.elitefts.com/documents/shoulderpain.htm

I think this article hits it right on the money regarding my shoulder problems and I actually wish I would have seen this a few weeks ago. I think all the external rotation work I was doing might have made it worse and strained the shoulder further.

I’ve noticed that when I work on SMR for the entire shoulder and pec region, stretch the shoulder and work on lower trap activation then my shoulder feels a lot better than if I try to do a bunch of external rotation. I tried the scap pull ups on Friday. They were hard, but felt really good when I was done with them.

Basically I’m going to take it easy the next week. Go for some walks and try to do SMR. Upper body stuff is pretty much out at the moment until the pain and swelling in my right bicep goes down.

Great article. I stretched the hell out of my shoulders today and was very tight in the pecs.

I had a vein pop once when trying to give platelets, ended up with a bruise from mid bicep to mid forearm, and that vein is still a little weird. I hope your bicep (and toe…and back…) feel better soon. Be positive.

I’ve been falling apart too. For the bruises I’ve fallen in love with Arnica Gel, it’s supposed to help with soreness too. I have yet to find anything to overcome the clumsiness.

Thanks for posting that article.

The aches and such will clear up sooner than later.

Tuesday 12/02:

My lower back still feels pretty sore, but it’s getting better. The bruising in my arm is actually worse, but there’s less pain in the arm. It still hurts to put it in any kind of stretched or contracted position.

The good news is that my foot/pinky seems to be okay again and my shoulder is getting better.

30 min on the recumbent bike
SMR (shoulder, upper back, chest, glutes and calves)
Scap pull-up: 10,10
Scap push-up: 15,15
Wall slides: 10,12 - On the last rep I’d really hold the bottom position and forcefully contract the lower traps until they’d feel like they were going to cramp.

Again, I wanted to stretch more and do some band traction for the shoulder, but that made my bicep feel weird, so I couldn’t do much else.

Tonight, I’m going to see if I can handle the broomstick stretch again and see if I can do 50 reps of the front to back shoulder stretch as suggested by Dante.

Supplement-wise, I started doubling up on Flameout this week to see if my shoulder improves faster.

I really want to heal up soon, so I can try out the new SURGE Workout Fuel. That looks really interesting to me. When I feel like I can really push things again, I plan on getting two bottles and giving it a run for about a month or so.

Sorry about all the injuries Vader, hope you get better soon. Doubling up on Flameout is a good idea, I think it will be beneficial for recovery. Also, keep us up to date on SURGE Workout Fuel, if you don’t mind.

Just thought I’d share. This is the bruising on my arm on Sunday, the morning after I gave blood.

This is the bruising today after I got home from work.

Wow. Are you low in iron?

x2

Maybe you should get that checked out? I assumed it was a little bruise, but that’s a lot of bleeding there. Do you clot okay usually?

[quote]PonceDeLeon wrote:

No, that’s from the lady at the Red Cross messing up with the needle during my blood donation. I’ve been giving blood every two months for about 6 years now and this is the first time anything like this has happened.

I knew she messed up as soon as she stuck the needle in. It didn’t feel like it normally does and I just knew that something wasn’t right. Usually once they stick the needle in, I stop feeling it after a few seconds. This time, it was painful for the duration of the donation. I think she went through the vein.

I normally don’t bruise at all.
