Results, Smolov Base Meso Cycle

I logged onto T-Nation, only to see this old thread pop up on the first page on the strength forum.

I recently finished the second round of smolov base meso cycle for frontsquats this year, and the coming friday i will try to attempt a new 1RM, I will then put videos online.

Thanks to everyone that has commented!

Hey the video was removed :frowning: I wanted to see it!

Very nice front squats!

I’ve done the Russian Squat routine, that was very good.

Squats of late have been waving up and down week by week by my coach. I use to religously front and back squat 6reps x 5sets @ 80%. Tested my Front squat 152kg and Back squat 180kg @ 87.5Kg  yesterday, 2 days after a comp. Mate does 173Kg front and a 200kg back squat at 105Kg. Strong! My bro does 140Kg front squat @ 69.5Kg!

What class and what comp numbers do you put up? Just wondering. I train 8-10x a week with a full job and a part time job :P. I train at lunch times during work. I squat 3x a week, 2 upperbody sessions (resting my legs and for general stuff), 3x Oly sessions and 1-2x hurdling at a Athletics club for fun.

Koing

I did this program (base cycle) last year in the summer and it was by far the most grueling thing I’ve ever but myself through, every w/o was feared going in after a while but i knew i had to do it.

I ended up with a 600@220(W/ a metal suit). My previous raw squat was 4701rm and that time around I hit for 5 reps. All and all was definetly worth it.

Not to hijack tread but does anyone know of a tried and true deadlift regimine.Trying to find something, for this summer.I’m currently @665 and would like to break into the 7’s by my bday.7/01 Thanks

That’s a hard ask. Depends so much on what you have done in the past, where you fail, what style you lift.

Having said that, I have a couple of suggestions. First, check out Mike Robertson’s latest article on pelvic alignment. If you have any issues there, it could be limiting your deadlift.

Assuming there are no problems there, and given you seem to cope OK with a fair bit of volume, you might like to try Steve Justa’s deadlift regime. Start with 70% of your (raw) 1RM. Do 1 single on Monday, 3 on Tuesday, 5 on Wednesday etc until you reach 15 singles on Sunday. The following Monday, add 10 lbs and repeat. Week 3, add another 10 lbs and repeat. Week 4, add another 10 lbs and repeat. At the end of this week, (ie on the Sunday) work up to a 1RM, then start again the following day at 70% of your new 1RM.

Well in pervoius 1RM attempts if I do fail it was always just before the kneecaps, after then I own it.

I definetly will thank you.

Ok so basically a 4 week phase going up 10lbs every new week, with same rep range at workouts correct?I can definetly handle volume training…only thing that ever gets me is high % training for an all out set…Thanks again.
Oh sorry I pull Conventional, and just use sumo as an added movement.

Yep, that’s right.

As promised here is my latest front squat video after another completion of the smolov base meso cycle for the frontsquat.

http://www.kraftsport.no/1RM/fsq_0001.wmv

I had the 1RM set at 165kg when i started the cycle. And I must say that I have never worked harder all my life. The 3rd workout in the 3rd week i experienced bleeding from my nose while frontsquatting.

the last workout in the third week i completed 8 sets of 3 reps at 155kg in the frontsquat with only a belt, the two last sets i did 2 reps (failed on the third rep on the 9th set), then reracked and did one more. I gave all I had.

Bloody tough stuff.

I also vomitted several times, and crapped in my pants during squattnig a few times.

So blood, vomit and crapping in the pants - that’s what smolov is about.

So far this year i have increased my 1RM front squat from 170 to 190kg. I have done the smolov base meso cycle twice.

I will pay more attention to the questions asked in this thread later, also pm’s are put on hold. I do not have internet access at home at the moment, because we have moved to another house, and my days are really filled up. Right now i am going on about the training a bit more easy.

I have a strongman comp in the end of the month.

The youtube videos I have are all deleted, but I will create a new account later and reupload videos.

Happy lifting - so long!

My bodyweight is about 105kg, and i compete at the moment in 110kg class in ipf powerlifting.
