Reoccurring Shoulder Injuries

i hurt my shoulder today pumping iron. fuck.

more specifically its in my rear deltoid, sharp pain very “pinpoint”…not spread out over my entire shoulder.

ive always had shoulder injuries here and there, popping and shit. i use to swim competitively (for like 10 years) and that must not have been so good for the rotator cuffs.

i sleep on my side which can’t help either.

at what point do you see the doctor? im fairly sure if i rest for 2 weeks and ice it i will be good to go but who knows if it happens again?

it doesnt really bother me just sitting normally which is good. sigh.

Do more pullups and chins

I had the same problem too in the back of my shoulder. I wasn’t sure exactly the muscle but was thinking maybe the infraspinatus or teres minor. Any type of shoulder press, bench press, or pullups would really aggravate it. Doctor told me to stay away from exercises like that for a couple of months.

pullups and chins do NOT hurt my shoulder which is awesome. i will continue doing them.

yeah ive especially tried to stay away from BB flat bench. I will do incline occasionally but I like the DB feel better anyway…or HS machine.

good thing i dont even like bench, i just want to deadlift.

I got sholder problems too. Depending on what is the problem in general chins will cause less pain.

some of my shoulder problems were gone because of pullups & chinups + voltaren

Dr. 09er and his interwebz diagnosis…awesome

As someone who has lived thru shoulder problems for the last 7 years, I opted for surgery.

Best bang for the buck exercises are chins, face pulls (retract and depress shoulder blades before each rep), prone/incline shrugs (focus on pulling up and back, start light to get a feel for it), dip shrugs, scarecrows. Most of these can be worked in as warmup exercise or finishers.

Low pulley rows 3x a week for a month works wonders for shoulder stability, upper back size/strength, and adds weight to almost every other lift. On really bad days 10x10 low pulley rows, starting light and ramping weight slowly usually works out the kinks.
