Regarding the relationship between limit strength and Fmax, how can both aspects be improved at the same time??
If you go for limit strenght you become slower so is this why you have light and heavy workouts in the same week?? cant you train at or around a certain % of you 1RM so that youll develop both?
What excactly is the amortization phase?? from what I understand its when you go from eccentric to concentric… resulting in a isometric contraction while you start going in the other direction?? this is why you doing all the iso stuff lateley?
If so how do you apply this to jumping?? holding your squat at the angle you bend before a jump or maybe better a little higher up to get better at switching gears so to speak??
What sort of set/rep/load would be used for this??
Amortization refers to reactive strength which is the capacity to quickly change from an eccentric to a concentric action as fast as possible.
Reactive strength requires two things:
high eccentric strength
high isometric strength
Before you can overcome a load, you must be able to control it and stop it. This is where most athletes are lacking: they do have the strength to produce force once the resistance has been stopped (sufficiant concentric strength) but they lack the eccentric and isometric strength to quickly decelerate the load and the isometric strength to stop it and reverse it in minimal time.
Research has shown that trying to lift a weight as fast as possible has as much impact on power development as actually lifting it fast. So in other words, if you are lifting a maximum load, if you are trying to lift it fast even if it’s moving slowly you’ll increase strength-speed.
I’ve had mixed results with this, I still believe that one has to use both high load exercises and high speed exercises to get the maximum improvement in power output.
Just wanted to chime in that as an athlete I must use high speed movements and heavy movements.
I had always heard ‘trying’ to lift a heavy load fast does the job but for me the results don’t come unless I do high speed work too.
I have seen others who say they don’t need the high speed work so I agree with CT in that I’ve seen mixed results. My .02 cents
