Your strength is just exploding man. Awesome work.

Reed, can you give me any tips on setting up reverse bands/band resisted stuff? I tried a reverse band set up with LIGHT bands that barely lets 135 touch the ground, and loses all tension at the top of a squat, and the knot appears to loosen some at times. I also can’t figure out a stable set up that keeps tension in the bottom for squats against bands.
Hey this maybe a little stupid but oh well. Give me a call 423 710 6167. Alot easier to talk it out than type it all out and am doing alot running around. Thanks man hear from you soon.
Sorry, I cannot call you. I’m fifteen years old, and my parents are very iffy about me even talking on forums like these. You can probably talk to me on a voice chat like “tiny chat” if you want to. I am still very grateful that you offered for me to call you. ![]()
Thanks by the way,

Yep, a power rack, a crappy adjustable bench that can fit in the power rack, a pretty good flat bench, extra weights, a semi decent bar, and two adjustable dumbbell handles along with a pair of light bands, mini bands, and micro minis.
I have also figured out how to set up the bands correctly for the bench.
Ok cool deal then you have plenty. For Deadlifts its way to easy to set up the bands Just suspend them from the top of the power rack and BAM your ready to pull. As for Squats and Bench if you can get them under the bottom just suspend them the same way you would the for the top but obviously do so on the bottom. Its just a much easier set up. You can do reverse band for Bench and Squats but unless you have some high anchors you will have to tie knots in the bands which I don’t recommend doing as it cant damage the bands over time. Also with the bands for the Bench I learned this stupid easy trick a while back. Just take the band and put one end in each hand cross the band once so it makes a figure 8 then take it and put it behind your back. Almost like your doing a chest press with a band. Now you have a DE Band set up only needing one band. Works great feels great and looks pretty cool as well.
Thanks! I found the top of the power rack is a pretty decent anchor for reverse band deadlifts. I think STB recommends a similar set up for reverse band deadlifts. For the DE bench, I like to do this. - YouTube
Just put half of the band on one end of the dumbbell, then put the other half on the other end, and connect both halves to the bar. I believe these when a band is attached like that, that it is ‘doubled’. It kind of looks like two bands are attached to it also.
I also believe the micro minis give 30-35ish at the top, and the the minis give 90-ish pounds at the top. For the set up I put down two of my 45’s per side to prevent them from rolling, and set up the bands so that they are exactly in line (or as in line as I can get them) to my bench path. I actually think they are a pretty nice tool to remind me to press to the top of my abs, and keep it in a straight line. ![]()
Once again, thanks for the help. I am also sure it is hard to understand my poor writing.

Awesome day today at GA Strongest Man. I placed pretty low in the standings honestly but, every single competitor in my class was top notch National material. This was a local GA Show but, in my opinion was the South Easts Strongest Man.
Went in to the Log Press feeling very good hit a very easy 245 in warm up. Decided to go 235 for opener just to guarantee I got on the board. Cleaned it and passed out almost immediately for what ever reason… Regrouped and nailed it within the time limit. Next was 255 felt pretty easy but was shaky. Decided to attempt 265 and nailed it easily really regret not hitting 275 and claiming a PR for my self.
650 frame I dont even want to talk about really attempted to pick it and as I was picking my right leg went completely numb as always with a Side Handle Deadlift and sure enough could hardly move I may have gotten 3-5 inches advanced. I have got to figure out what the hell is going on with this movement as apparently its gaining popularity and is my biggest weakness due to past injuries.
Keg Press Medley and Load felt great 150 and 175 flew up one motion and loaded like a empty keg. Went back to get the 200 and as I pressed it I got out on my toes and lost it forward so I reset and just strict pressed it as to avoid any possible forward motion and was credit with 3 kegs pressed.
18in Deadlift… Only thing I can say is HELL YES. Memorial Day weekend I pulled 645 for a nasty shitty hitched ungodly rep life time pull. Today I absolutely raped 685 for stupid easy fluid motion single. This was a 40lbs PR. Then went up to 725 as it was the next jump and in my opinion I pulled this weight was locked out and standing with control and as the judge was giving the down signal the bar just slipped from my hands and was not credited but, no offense to Tom I hit that weight… 80lbs PR.
Atlas Stones were horrible won’t even lie the absolute worst I have ever done. The stones were so hot the Tacky was like syrup every stone was just completely slipping and sliding for every competitor. Even the sub 18 second lifters today were well off there mark. I unfortunately only loaded one stone successfully and as I was extending from my lap with 275 it just kept sliding out of my arms as I rose and could just not break the platform.
Simply put I may have not placed high against literally 10 of the best lifters not in GA but the Country but, today was by far my best performance and shattered some PRs and tied a few of my life time bests. I am making progress and want to think the guys who have helped me so much. Scott Helms of course for getting me addicted to this sport, Mark Phillips for giving me hell all in good fun but, giving me motivation to continue coming back stronger and stronger each month, and Sam Byrd for helping me make some of the absolute best strength gains in just a few months that I have in years and taking me under wing literally not knowing a thing about me, and Kristi my beautiful wife for putting up with my shit and some how not only staying with me day after day but helping me push, eat, and not be a pussy when I just want to lay in bed instead of Squat that day. Love all you guys.
PS thanks so much to Mckayla Perry the awesome video and pics taken today and the encouragement.
Holy shit! Sorry for missing this!
I’m elated to see your grit in this competition, and some real honesty. It also looked like some brutal competing conditions. Good resolve there.
What’s next man?
Not a 100% sure really. Am really wanting and needing to focus on upping my pure strength lifts right now
I’m just so far behind the curve compared to most especially for my weight class. I have pretty much said I will not compete again until I have Squat 500, Pulled 600, and Strict Pressed 250. If I can maintain the progress I have I’m looking at 6 months before I reach those number maybe little longer for the press. So I will most likely not compete until next year sad to say but, its for the best honestly.
Finally figured a easy way to upload my videos so imam post up some from the past month not really in any particular order.
530 Sumo Belt Only
330 for 10
270 Log Press 12in
725 18in Deadlift haha have lost a lot of bloat since this picture and yes one of my nipples is off set for some damn reason.
Roughly 2 months ago 750 Yoke about 80ft
185 Strict Press for 7 after 2 sets of 5
FIrst Session back after a week off to rest up. Felt great going In and just kept adding weight to the bar this morning.
Barbell Push Press I worked up to 300lbs for a single. I have put this over head before but never this easily, smooth, and was 250lbs at the time I only weigh 220 this morning so big PR for me.
Since I hit such a big PR all I did after were Wide Grip Pulldowns done with Strict form.
100 for 10
140 for 10
180 for 10
200 for 10
240 for 6 strapped in.
Awesome job at your last competition. Stepping up to the 231’s is a whole other world of competition. Do you have you eyes set on another competition?
Possibly the TN State in November and or a SPF Powerlifting meet in Novemeber. Your going to nationals right?
Speed Bench with Sam at TSF Yesterday. Was pretty easy and more of a recovery session than anything after my PR on Monday and Sam’s 850 Raw Squat this Saturday we were both feeling a bit down.
225lbs 70% 1rm Bench Press for 10 sets of 3.
Each rep was brought 1 inch from the chest to force the upper back to stay as tight as possible in the hole, paused for 1 Mississippi, then pressed to lockout.
Hammer Curls for sets of 12 with 40lbs
Went home.
