It’s a long shot, but you think maybe the improvements in your OHP are affecting your bench? Basically your body getting tuned to the OHP movement pattern, but that’s throwing off the bench?[/quote]

I would have to say no. Only because if you go back through my log you will see that over head training has been dropped to a minimum. Sense I am training for my first powerlifting meet in November I dropped almost all overhead work in favor of Bench work. That’s why I am shocked to see my Overhead numbers Strict and with Leg Drive are seriously taking off.

Hm. So… you train bench more, don’t do as well. You train OHP less, and get better with it. Maybe it’s a frequency thing?

Compounded with improving strength imbalances.

I think your right on point with this. Which is why I’m going to try and just let it deload and hopefully take care of its self. Kinda like my OHP has done. I mean Deload my bench is literally all I,have not tried.

Last Heavy Squat Day today in order to decide Squat opener.

I decided to Squat very wide today as I know if I can hit a weight to depth with wide feet then I know, In my power stance I hit it for 3. So today I worked up to 500 for 2. Which is a all around Squat PR and a huge motivation since it was done in a weaker stance, it was walked out last 500 was from a Mono, and I went from a hard fought single with a nose bleed to a not to bad double. So I will open with 500 and hope to top out at 530 maybe 540 at best.

Standing Rope Crunches: 4 sets of 15 with 40lbs
Hyper-Extension Barbell Rows: 45 for 12, 65 for 12, 85 for 12, 95 for 12, 110 for 12
Planks: 3 sets to fail.

Deadlift at Tsf with Sam and Kristi.

Speed Squats: 3 sets of 5 with 300lbs.
Box Pulls: Worked up to 585 for a double.
Stiff Leg Deadlifts: 315 for 4 sets of6
Wide Nuetral Grip Pulldown: 4 sets of 12 with 130.

Hey, Reed, what do you feel about farmer walk/other types of carries that has you carry heavystuff in your hands carry over to deadlifting/squatting? I have been doing the carries lately for heavy ab work, and to help work on my weak grip.

I’m just asking, since you are likely the person here to ask about farmer walks.

Thanks, DSSG.

For the Squat I honestly don’t think it has much of a carry over at all to your Squat unless core is a big limiting factor for your Squat which yours is not.

For the Deadlift it has a huge carry over in my opinion especially considering alot people miss a Deadlift at the top due to a upper back weakness. Which leads to them rounding over at the top and having a hard time locking out. Farmers walks force you to keep that Chest high and Upper Back tight or your lose it forward everytime. Also nothing increases grip strength faster than Farmers and Timed Holds so, if your lacking there it can only make you better.

Press Night at the Rush by myself :frowning:

Bench Press: Worked up to 275 for 5 singles. 285 for 2 singles. 300 for 1 single. All with a comp pause. I felt fairly good today and was pretty happy with this over all considering the last few weeks of training. I was going to deload but, was advised to go in and do a bunch off singles and get confident again.

Bench with Sling Shot: 300 for 5, 315 for 3, 335 for 2, 355 for 1

Slight Incline DB Press: 3 sets of 6 with 90lbs

Chin Up: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1

Cable Row: 4 sets of 12 with 180

Is it supposed to be hard to keep your shoulders/upper back in place for farmer walks? I don’t really notice that, nor do I notice it for deadlifts. I guess I have really strong traps/lats, and they aren’t really a limiting factor.

Grip however, is a huge thing. The video I posted weeks ago you could probably notice that my grip is weak. So I will definitely continue them, and try to get my grip stronger. It should also allow me to lockout heavier weights because I can hold onto it longer, and take longer if necessarily to lockout something (and keep the bar falling out of my hand/forcing me to lower it).

Well once you get heavy enough yes lol. Try this get a pair of lifting straps and load up a farmers implement to 250 per hand and take for 100 ft and you will know exactly how hard it is to keep your chest up . Your thing right now is your grip is limiting you in actually over loading the Lats and Traps fully. I suggest taking the heaviest weight you can for 80-100 ft for 2-3 sets tops. Then Strap in and see if you can’t go up 15-20% per hand and just walk as absolutely far as possible. I promise your shoulders are going to start trying to roll forward and eventually your going to hit the ground. Not because of your legs but because your shoulders and lats rounded to a point your core couldn’t allow you to walk forward any more.

Have you tried Double Overhand Fat Bar holds… Nothing increased my grip with a standard bar faster. That and Pinch Grip work.

Squat and Deadlifts with Sam and Kristi at TSF.

We miscalculated how many weeks we had till the meet and realized we had one more week to go heavy so that’s what we did.

Squats: Worked up to 420 without wraps and then wrapped up. I should have wrapped up at a lighter weight and got the feel of it. Went up to 475 and hit a hard single due to my movement being a bit different with the wraps. I kept the weight and retook it for another single and smoked it felt like a speed set. Hit 1 more single there and Sam called it a day. Went back down to 320 and hit a set of 10 unwrapped.

Technique Pulls: 405 for 4 sets of 3 pulled Conventional.

Pull Downs with Fat Grips: 130 for 5 sets of 12.

Shoulders and Upper Back at the Rush.

Seated Military Press: Worked up to 225 for 2 sets of 2. This is a PR. Previous was 220 for a single at 230+ bodyweight I am 215 tonight.

Standing Press: 135 for 12, 185 for 5, and 225 for 2

Cable Rows: 120 for 20, 140 for 16, 160 for 12, 180 for 10, 200 for 8, 220 for 8, 260 for 8 (strapped) and 290 for 8 (strapped)

Barbell Shrugs: 135 for 20, 185 for 12, 225 for 10, 275 for 10, 315 for 12 (strapped), 365 for 12 (strapped)

Hammer Curls: 20 for 10, 30 for 10, 40 for 10, and 42.5 for 8 + 2 loose reps.

Hello, Reed, here is a recent easy PR I had. It was a 285X5 wide stance squat. I had been having issues with oxygen (my body somehow not getting enough, and me standing still after reracking the squat with my eyes closed) and hips. Other wise I would have without a doubt gone for 295, and probably gotten that too.

^ the video quote my message to see it, also how is the depth on the squats? I think I appear to be going down just low enough, but I am not sure. I was trying to go just barely low enough so I could keep the tightness/a good position, and stop it from beating up my hip flexors/hip joint

Hay Bro!
You and Kristi are locked in? I hope you both kill it! You and her worked hard for this; remember that when you are there, you’re there because you belong; that this is what you do and you do it better than anyone else. You have trained hard and your attempts are not an attempt but a foregone conclusion.

Had a fucking awesome time at the meet yesterday was great me and Kristi both set some awesome PRs. I listened to Sam and was very conservative with my numbers since this was my first ever meet and was trying to get used to everything so I left a good bit on the platform but, come March (mine and Kristi next meet its game on fucking monster) I wound up with 1390 total at 205lbs bodyweight so nit to horrible I guess.

Started out with 490 on Squat murdered that of course, 505 once again easy, then topped with 525 and I swear it was the fastest looking rep yet. I had a easy 15lbs left in me.

Bench was scaring the shit out of me as I have not went or been able to go heavy in well over month. So I opened with 275 and actually missed it because I racked way to early. Went up to 300lbs any way and murdered looked beautiful. Next went 315 and got about half way up and my hands rocked back toward my face and I couldn’t lock it so no lift .

Deadlift I felt stupid strong in and strongly regret not going much heavier. But still pulled a beautiful 20lbs PR. Opened with 500 and it absolutely flew up. 535 just as fast, 565 once again gorgoues but, I got the down signal, set the bar down, and completely blacked came through and according to every one my first words were “Did I get the lift?” every one was laughing and it was 3 white lights.

Will have video up in soon so any one who wants can see my pale, fat ass, in a skin tight singlet… Dont lie you know you want to ;). Be looking in Squattinmachines Log soon as well as Kristi had stupid impressive lifting for a first meet.
