my dilema is that i really wanna add some quality LBM to my frame(6’1 188), but im carrying quite a high BF id say around 16-17%…but ive heard of many ppl who bulk clean and actually drop some BF in the process of adding some lean muscle…any suggestions or comments are welcome…
Get big FIRST… That’s the way it has worked for most of us. Feed the bod, then lean down later, just don’t go overboard on the wrong diet.

Dizzle, if you’re willing to diet seriously and with precision, stop by and check out the carb cycling thread that kbattis started.
Honestly, though, I’d probably, initially, recommend T-Dawg 2.0 because it’s such a clean, straight-forward, simple diet, one that has yielded the people who have used it some very nice results, without their feeling too terribly deprived. I also like the fact that it allows you enough carbs for PWO nutrition.
Rampratr, check out some of John Berardi’s stuff. I don’t remember the exact article, but there’s been research done in this are that seems to indicate that a higher percentage of scale weight put on at higher BF percentages is going to be fat and that a higher percentage of any scale weight put on at lower BF percentages is going to be muscle.
The general consensus here on the forum is to cut down to at least 12% and then bulk from there.
Just wanted you to know where Dizzle was coming from.
Drizzle,
Hows it going. I would lean toward the side of cutting down a bit more before you head to a bulking stage. This will allow you to go for a longer period of moderate bulking/eating above maint. to put on muscle without allowing your BF% to get out of hand.
Not sayng you need to be in the single digits or anything. I would just diet diown to a point where your body seems to be at a natural BF% and you can maintain that level easily without strict dieting. Possibly the 10-12% range. Then go for the long haul bulk in my opinion. Creating a surplus of energy by eating above maint. but not hugely. Just shoot for 200-300 K/cals above maint. and and slowly pack on some quality mass with little in the way of BF gains.
Just my perspective,
Hope it helps,
Phill
