Real-Man Deltoids: A Preview

Close-grip upright rows. IMO, they are absolutely contraindicated for any- and everyone.

I have done close grip upright rows since I was 15, so for over 45 years off and on. Never a shoulder issue.

So maybe not contra-indicated for some?

There’s a saying in medicine (I’m a doctor): Just cuz you got away with it, don’t mean you shoulda done it.

The only way to know if one could do close-grip upright rows without incurring serious injury is to do them and see if you incur serious injury–and once you do, it’s too late. So, yes–contraindicated for everyone.

Yeah - they apparently are the literal model for shoulder impingement. There’s a ton of ‘forbidden’ exercises that are perfectly fine if done in a certain manner, but there’s no way to do those without closing the subacromial space.

That 75deg Pulldown is almost EXACTLY the positioning I use in my 1-Handle PDs. What the “1 Handle” offers is removal of the grip and forearms as weak points in the movement.

Scott Wilson?
Whine Time: Too bad us old owners of the TNBFOSR book (multiple copies!) won’t be privy to that story!!!
