RE LB Day

I am on a Westside template and I was thinking of taking a break from my DE lower body day and replacing it with an RE lift. I am trying to gain weight so I also have been alternating my DE bench day with an RE day for my upperbody. I was thinking of maybe ATG squats for reps, or maybe RDLs, then moving on to accessory work. Anyone have any suggestions?

for me now that loads are getting high etc im finding it increasingly harder to do such a thing for LB as compared to upper Body. Damnm DL’s and squats done heavy just put a hell of a whack on you.

This is why im making the swicth to DE/ME more traditional but will make the ME from time to time more of an ME/RE hybrid go all the hell out for say an 8 rep max etc That really can smoke you for quite a few days and the DE day following helps you still gte the RE assistnce work but trying to Go heavy/hard on big movements like that is starting to take its toll on me anyway.

Hope that helps some.

I guess I should say though that YES such an approach has worked great for me up top now. I would do say monday a squat w/o work up to a 1-3 rep max and then on DL day friday do a dl variation for an 8-12 rep max. Really moved the loads up FAST I still am a firm beleiver in rep work 8-12 and occasional crazy 20 rep squats breathing etc hell man they build stregth and character.

Just go by feel and vary the movements/ Like this week for instance couldnt go ultra heavy on the sqauts do to the broken toes but did get 455 for a few sinlges then hammered heavy leg presses DEEP. Hips and quads were still hurting come friday so I waited till that day to choose the DL went for SLDL as my hams, glutes and back felt great. hit a very nice 12rep max PR.

Im preparing to make the change over to DE/ME though just to heal better now as I think doing the work now with higher loads say hitting a 6.5 plate DL on friday has a BIG effect on anything heavy come monday with squats it wasnt that way before. go by feel and dont be affraid to throw a loop in every once and a while just listen to your body after whatever it is you throw at it.

What does RE or LB stand for?

Repetition Effort for Lower Body. I keep track of days in my workout log such as ME LB, DE LB, etc. It just makes it easier for me to reference my past workouts quickly.
