RBlue's Training Log

Yes, T, fried is good! And my wine is now un-doing all of my good work at the gym, lol.

Oh, and thanks for rubbing it in about the weather. :stuck_out_tongue:

Heresy! It’s against the law to have snow falls, flurries and such past March 15. Seriously we had a wicked mild winter here in MTL - the least amount of snowfall since the 1940’s. I could definitly live through many more like this. Strange that it would come right after a record snowfall year. Talk about screwy.

Yeah, it’s definitely screwy. I certainly love a mild winter, and unseasonably warm temps, but it’s a little worrisome too. This was apparently the warmest winter EVER in Canada, and I just read that average temps in T.O. have been steadily increasing over the last couple centuries, but the rate has increased in the last few decades. 1-2 degrees increase on average between the 19th and 20th centuries, and a full 1 degree since the 1970s.

Even stranger is the crazy snowfalls across the border.

so i’m an idiot in some regards and didn’t know exactly where you two Canadians lived. so i googled of course. absolutely beautiful it looks. we want to make it up to BC at least some time. as in road trip up that way.

screwy weather will become the norm i’m afraid. weather patterns have been changing and causing some pretty serious implications in places. but i’m not inviting a discussion on global warming…just sayin’…

im amazed at the conversation about weather. are you bitches standing in line at the bank?

nice lat raises.

and nice ass.

im watching you.

Nlmain & T - Global Warming = Bad. I see a kiosk has opened up, nice chattin’ with ya both.

CBear - Nice to see you back on here! Thanks for the ass compliment - coming from someone whose ass is so famed in SAMA, that’s big praise.

Today’s training:

10 mins of intervals on the stepmill. And that was that.

I am again undoing that gym time with a glass of delicious French red wine. It’s so worth it.

If it’s just a glass then I don’t believe it’s that bad. Now if you’re like me and have to go through the bottle… well that’s what sharing is for right? Right! (hint)

you’ll love B.C (everybody does!) I’m a good 5 hour flight east but still. If your into good food, and beautiful mountains and see-side views then it’s your ticket. If you want to make it affordable bring some camping gear although keep in mind it does get chilly at night up in the mountains.

I’d be happy to share with you, but my Dad had already ‘shared’ himself some before I got home, so there was only a glass left. But it’s ok, because I had half the bottle the night before. :stuck_out_tongue:

Today’s training:

Went into the gym very pissed off due to some personal/financial drama, and was dying to throw some heavy shit around. Unfortunately, today was squat day, and I’m backing off on the weight to focus on my form. So I wasn’t too excited for the light weights (or at least I thought they’d be light).

I videotaped my squats tonight, so I’ll get the vids uploaded soon.

(1) Squat 3x5,3,1: dropped my 1RM from 213 to 175 lbs.

75% = 130 lbs x5
85% = 150 lbs x3
95% = 165 lbs x3
=> From reviewing the vids, I think my depth is much better than it was, although still not as deep as it felt while I was doing it… room to improve!

My money set, which prior to training I expected to be a piece of cake, felt WAY harder than I expected. After finishing the set my first words were, “Since when is 165 so fucking heavy?”…

(2) BB Reverse Lunge 4x6: 120 lbs

(3) GHR on lat pulldown 3xAMRAP: 5/6/5

(4a) Band leg curls with blue band: 3x8 on both legs
3x8 on left leg only
=> Tried to be as explosive as possible on these.

(4b) Weighted plank 3x30s 25 lbs

2nd working set, 150 lbs x3

Money set, 165 lbs x3

Sorry to hear about the drama Blue. Smart of you to take it out at the gym rather than on the wine. As for those squats they do look better than last time but I’ll let the “squat judges” decide if it’s legal depth.

Squat judges, eh? That would be PMPM. Oh PMPM!! Where are you?

Love your form.

lookin good ! you take a wide stance like me…

im no squat judge but they did look better than last time. Rachelle…your bod is bangin! damn…that’s all i’m gonna say.

and sorry about the personal drama. glad you took it on the weights!

Thanks ladies!

T - now you’ve gone and got me blushing.

MiM - that stance is going to be changing after today’s MAT assessment…

Prior to training today, M performed another assessment on me. We already saw improvements based on my incorporation of the isometrics he recommended, which was nice to know. (M - feel free to correct any of this if I screw it up):

  • My right femur’s external rotation is much improved, and almost on par with the left.
  • My right femur’s internal rotation (?) tested while on my front with knee at 90 degrees needs improvement.
  • Left hamstring firing & strength is still a big issue; isometrics help to improve it, but it is barely firing at knee angles less than about 50 degrees. Damn surgery!!
=> This is causing lack of stability in my left knee when I squat much below parallel. M suggested I avoid trying for ass to grass squats for the moment, while we work on improving my hamstring activation and left knee’s stability. So, I’m going to continue squatting to just below parallel for now. Also, M suggested I adopt a closer stance (at shoulder width) for my squat in the interim.

I did some bodyweight squats with arms crossed front-squat style immediately following the assessment, and they felt really good. After my planned workout for the day I decided to do some light BB squats to see how they felt:

Back Squat with bar - felt really awkward dropping into the hole, and I almost fell over backwards! lol.

switched to Front Squat with bar - felt much more natural, which is new for me. Normally these feel awkward.
Front Squat - triples with 45/65/85/95/105 lbs

  • These all felt quite good, although I’m now noticing a dull ache at the back of my left hip…

I’m going to keep the Back Squat as my main squat for now, since it’s causing me problems and I want to improve it. I think I also may add front squats in as an accessory lift on one of my training days though.

Today’s training:

(1) Bench Press 3x5/3/1:
75% = 105 lbs x5
85% = 120 lbs x3
95% = 135 lbs x6
=> I feel great about that money set!

(2) Kroc Rows 2xAMRAP: 60 lbs 14/14
=> These felt weak today

(3) DB Floor Press 4x4-6: 50 lbs 6/5/6/3

(4) Wide, pronated-grip cable row 5x4-6: 120

(5) 1-arm DB OHP 5x5: 25 lbs

So cool that you know your body as well as you do given the MAT assessment results.
