I’m with you on the olive oil, onions, salt, pepper. That makes everything good. And parsnips, or turnips. Also underrated: greens, like chard or mustard greens or collards. (You can’t always get them fresh but frozen is almost as good.) More nutrients and more flavor than spinach.
kpsnap - it certainly feels like the deads are heavier if the bar gets too far out from under me, so I’m inclined to believe that.
JM - Brussels sprouts (thanks for the correction, T) - I steam them, then drizzle them with some olive oil (or butter!), and sprinkle a little salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Really yummy. I love their texture too.
Alisa - Yes! Greens are delicious! I like swiss chard a lot. And rapini (does that count as a ‘green’?). Could never get into the dandelion greens though, they’re a bit too bitter for me.
i wasn’t really correcting…i thought it was funny when i looked them up-never thunk it that they were named after the place…
<3 me some brussels sprouts.
actually, i’ve never met a food i dont like.
god we’re starting to sound like figure athletes with all this food talk.
but seriously.
i like to sautee my spinach in a lil bit of butter, and dump some crumbled feta into it, put the lid on to let the feta get all melty, then nom.

Except, we’re not obsessing over eating that extra spoonful of peanut butter.

Woke up at about 5am this morning with the WORST muscle cramp I’ve ever experienced in my left vastus medialis. My knee was locked, and I couldn’t flex it for a few minutes. It was incredibly painful. Still feels weird.
Maybe I’ll eat a banana or something… isn’t that supposed to help with muscle cramps?
I think I’ve heard that about bananas. Maybe it’s the potassium? Weird to wake up like that. Did you just sleep wrong?
potassium and magnesium both help with muscle cramps.
tsk tsk, youre not taking your zma?
I’m just happy we were able to get the deadlift in the VID! I just couldn’t let them shoot a Safe Lifting Video in my gym where the only lifting you’d be doing was a cable pressdown! Seems the ergonomist has a Kin degree so I had to explain the mechanics of the lift to him slowly…but he got it after the 2nd attempt so it’s all good! ![]()
I can be such an ass!
M.
Are you taking a multi Blue? a good quality multi should cover your basic mineral needs.
potassium:
Bananas, salmon,turkey, greens, spinach…
magnesium:
Almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, brazil nuts, barley, quinoa, swiss chard, spinach…
- notice spinach has both, hence my secret supper food.
Kpsnap - I don’t think I slept wrong. I’ve often woken up with cramps in my calves in the past, but this was the first time I’ve experienced one in my quad, and also the worst I’ve ever experienced. My vastus medialis is actually still a little sore now, over 16 hours after the fact!
Bear - Nope, at the moment no zma. I’ve taken it before, but it’s annoying that it says to take it on an empty stomach (because my stomach is rarely empty before bed). Plus I believe foods containing calcium are contraindicated, and I love my yogurt mixed with chocolate protein powder before bed! (Excuses, excuses)
Nlmain - Nope, no multi either. I get really lazy about taking any supplements other than glucosamine and fish oil (and increasingly vit. D), because if I don’t notice a difference in how I’m feeling whether I’m taking it or not, I figure why spend the money on it. Thanks for the list of foods!
Big M - You may be an ass, but no one will ever challenge you on it. I was laughing at everyone involved in the shoot, because none of them could get over how HYOOOGE you are. THANK YOU for convincing them the deadlift was a good idea! Now here’s hoping they use that footage, rather than the alternate pressdown footage. ![]()
Today’s training: Bench Deload
(1) Bench Press 3x5
40% = 55 lbs x5
50% = 70 lbs x5
60% = 85 lbs x5
=> Focused on speed and explosiveness on these, so they wouldn’t be too boring. I had to hold myself back from saying ‘fuck the deload’ and working up to a 1RM though. Deloading is important, even if I find it boring.
(2) 1-arm DB row (strict form) 4x6: 60/65/65/60 lbs
(3) 1-arm DB floor press 4 sets: 50 lbs, 5/6/5/5 reps
(4) Bent-over BB row (wide, pronated grip) 3x10: 95 lbs
(5) 1-arm DB OHP 5x5: 27.5 lbs
strict form on those DB rows is niice! sorry about your quad…that sounds terrible. yes, your deload is important…
you just reminded me to go take some fishy oil and who knows what else. i just started a probiotic. don’t think there is a difference.
lol that everyone hates deloading, but so many people are nursing some kind of injury or another. HELLOOO, people, take care of yourselves!!
nice bb rows, woman!
and ps- you can take zma an hour before your last meal, with a lot of water, and by the time you eat, it’ll be far enough in your system to negate the cation boding crap that happens.
^Thanks for the tip Claire, now I don’t have an excuse not to take it. ![]()

Very true, just need reminding sometimes.
Tomorrow is my crazy-long work/video shooting day. I work from 1:15-9:15, then immediately head to the video shoot which will last overnight until roughly noon on Friday. 23 hours of work, straight.
I’ll need a coffee i.v.

So coffee is one of those things best absorbed via the ass?
Video shoot? Tell me you direct porn…or the wiggles - either works.

Can’t stress this enough!
Awesome rowing Blue. Good stuff.
