Question: will there be a Kauai? jk
Jiiirrree I can’t wait!

Hows this going?

World Cup 2010

:))))))

Hows the gym coming along? World Cup is here… :))

It’s great that you’re doing something raw in Cape Town, man. I’m coming back from Japan in September and I’d be interested in working out with you guys. Do you have a website yet or any details on costs? I’m planning to do a personal training certification at ETA when I get back, but I’ll have a few months after getting back to train like an animal and really get ready for it. I’ll probably the only 30 year-old in the course, so I can’t have the kiddies showing me up.

Good luck with the launch and early days, man.

Jon.

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the slow response but have been pretty manic with my own clients, setting up the new gym and trying to get to as many World Cup matches as possible!

The gym is coming along nicely. Equipment is on the way currently floating along nicely on the high seas and should be with us within 3/4 weeks. Can’t wait! Sick and tired of training at Virgin Active and getting threatened with being banned for dropping 100kg of weights after doing clean and press. It take every muscle to get it up above my head, do you really think I’m going to use just my shoulders and arms to bring it down, come on Virgin get with it!

We’ve also just ordered some awesome bands as well, have to admit they weren’t from EliteFTS but another company recommend by a powerlifter friend. Chains are also getting sorted as we speak, we have some for pulling and some for barbell work. We’re not sure how much to get, so rather too much then too little!

The premises we had lined up for the gym didn’t work out, far too much money needed to bring it up as a viable venue so we are now going to be in Westlake Lifestyle Centre, Bell Crescent, Westlake, Tokai. For anyone who doesn’t know the area it’s down the end of the M3, turn right towards Ou Kaap se Weg (?) and first set of lights turn right. Get to the rounadbout and it’s immediately on your left. We’re upstairs.

We have had to comprimise slightly on some fittings and fixtures, because of the area that it is we have put in TV’s and some nicer touches but essentially it will be Personal Training, by appointment only and we are exposing all the sharp edges and training people regardless of their goals the proper way.

I know we are a new business and money is money but we are not willing to comprise on the style of training! You don’t have to lift the heaviest weights or be the biggest mother F*cker out there but when you train with us, you give it your all! Full stop! That’s hardcore!

Fuck I’m excited!

Hey Jon,

Thanks for the luck!
Website is under construction but it will be www.evofitness.co.za - there is a temporary site up at the moment but it will be changing constantly until we have the full site ready to go.

I studied at eta when I was 25 and there were a few older than me, I actually work at their gym with my current crop of clients at the moment. Word of warning, eta is crap. A lot of money for not a lot of content!

The textbooks are ancient, their ways of doing things are ancient. Advocating high carb diets still and using machines for newbies rather than bodyweight and free weights to train and teach. They have no concept of any form of strength training.

Your best bet would be to study through one of the American providers like ACE. There was actually an article on here the other day about how to become a personal trainer. Worth reading. Wish I had known that 5 yrs ago!

There is a company here to ACE qualifications they are a shit gym/company but it’s a good way to get the qualification - www.bodyexcel.co.za - seriously shit gym actually!

Other than that good luck with whatever route you choose!

Cheers

Its awesome to hear its coming along with the equipment and so excited to check the place out!
Finally somewhere where you can actually train that knows what a damn squat is! Also train at virgin and I wont even begin to mention how me and my mates have had to make pin presses with foam blocks on squat racks and used stretching bands for “bands” used in powerlifting, haha real SA ghetto style!

Sounds good man! Any chance of getting some pictures thrown up here for us?

EDITED - I mean once the equipments set up and all that.

Damn, dude. Thanks for the heads-up. Living in Japan, I obviously haven’t had a chance to really check out the options in SA. If you say ETA is crap, then I’m not so keen on it. I don’t really want to learn about how machines are ‘safer’ for you, you can only absorb 20g of protein from a meal and ‘omfg doesn’t the smith machine rock?’.

The bodyexel place looks super-middle-aged-wifey, but it they do the ACE certification it might be worth looking into.

I guess I’ll get the lowdown once I hit SA.

Hell I’d love to train with you guys just because you’re getting a prowler.

OP

How much was it to import the prowler by the way?

Hey Tokyo

Definitely will be posting pics as and when things go up in the gym. The imported shipment will be cutting it fine but I’m sure it’ll all work out great.

In the meantime attached is the logo/branding for the gym.

The only good thing with BodyExcel is being able to do the ACE qualification. Definitely a soft gym though, although don’t knock all the middle aged wifeys, some of my best clients are middle aged wifeys whose bodies have transformed massively and have become very strong since there re-education on what real training is!

They’re our two logos - one on white and one on black - both will be used to brand our product and get the gym known!

Hard to work out because you have the cost of the proweler, shipping (expensive), VAT, import duties, plus all the customs clearing and forwarding fees.

We are bringing stuff in bulk so it makes it cheaper but will try and work it out for you.

We will be importing on a more regular basis to sell to other gyms, be it personal home gyms or more commercial setups so will let you know.

Sweet thats awesome, hehe yoh if I had a prowler at home it would be like heaven (hell more likely) haha! Would definately squeeze some cash to get one from you okes when its all set up and so on

Some of our stuff coming together…

Some of our equipment arriving!
