I’ve been hammering the triples and doubles lately on the squat and bench ; need to get some heavy pulls in soon…or at least heavy rack-pulls . bench really seems to be responding to the 3’s and 2’s well .
lookin forward to the meet in October . Im thinkin I got some progress to prove .
Walkinggunshow: How are your lifts coming along?
Anyone use floor press for BP assistance and do you get much carryover? I was thinking about adding them to change things up, as I pretty much stick to CGBP, DB bench and dips for assistance lifts, and was thinkign about adding a 4th to rotate in. thoughts?
I dont think I will ever understand why people think the westside method is for mostly geared lifters. If youve ever seen the westside lifters train its mostly raw other than breifs for box squatting. I also dont understand why a raw lifter would take speed work out from their program. Raw lifters need sped work from the bottom, thats where many people have a problem with their bench, squat and even deadlift.
Ive been using the westside method for a while, and it is simple (once you understand what louie is talking about) and gets me great results, especially for my bench.

I use floor press for a main lift once in a while. Its great for lockout strength.
Bump, want to hear more about the best assistance exercises for raw lifters.
Hearing you guys talk about floor presses makes me nostalgic. When I was 15 and I had my first set of weights (plastic plates full of sand), my chest workout revolved around floor presses because I didn’t have a bench! I used piles of books on either end to get it high enough to slide under. In fact maybe I invented them!!
Floor press is also great for training reversal strength, like box squats. You have to overcome the static load dynamically to drive the bar up. Also a good way to increase upper body involvement, since you can’t really drive with the legs. Typically I get good carryover, about 50 lbs. I sometimes set my opener at what I can floor press for a heavy single.
