Deadlifts are a mystery at our age, but if you crack the code let us know. I do know that some days are diamonds and some stone. Ya never know til you try.
Great progress Jack. Especially after the long break. Very impressive.[/quote]

Old-Man Powers, what’s up? Thanks for stopping in and classing up the joint!

I’m sure that 475 is flying up soon.

Thanks fellas!

Squats: 45 x10, 135 x5, 225 x3, 275 x1, 315 x1, 365 x1, 405 x1, 435 x1, 405 x1, 365 x3.

Bench: 45 x20, 135 x5, 185 x3, 225 x1, 275 x1, 300 x1.

Machine Rows: 180 x10, 270 x10, 360 x10, 450 x10, 360 x10, 270 x10, 180 x10.

Notes: Squats felt great tonight. 435 was about all I had but I buried it and depth wasn’t an issue. 300 was a grinder but it went! Things are moving north, that’s all I can ask.

300 and things are moving north! those are good words to read!! Bigger better stronger yet to come!

Congrats on the 300, I had no doubt that was coming. I wasn’t squatting everyday when I was doing a modified so I don’t have personal experience on the deadlift issue but I know some of the guys running the Bulgarian method, were alternating weeks on the day they pulled between speed work and going heavy.

From what I gather, with the daily heavy squatting pulling heavy once every two weeks was sufficient to maintain and even improve their dead numbers. Good work!

Thanks Dave. I think pulling to an attempted PR every week is going to be too much in conjunction with the squatting heavy 4 or 5 times a week. I could just feel bad things about to happened and I knew it before I stepped into the gym. I think if my squat numbers keep going up the dead numbers will naturally float up as well as long as I groove the movement a bit.

Squats: 45 x10, 135 x5, 225 x3, 315 x1, 365 x1, 405 x1, 440 x miss, 365 x3.

Bench: 45 x20, 135 x5, 185 x3, 225 x1, 275 x1, 300 x1, 275 x2, 245 x5.

Notes: I felt a bit sick going in and had a splitting headache. I may have talked myself out of 440 before I tried it. I buried it and got stuck in the middle. I was very close to breaking through and it was a long grinding miss. I need to do better either committing to the lift or not attempting it. Now I really feel beat to shit.

Damn fine work for feeling like shit.
Grinding the squat with a headache is Viking in my book.
Nice 300!
Get better time. As your doctor I recommend steak and whiskey. Wow a little HST flashback.

Thats sounds like solid advice.

Read fear and loathing when it was released. Good times. A must read males 17 to 20. But if memory serves, and we are talking 35 years ago, the Lawyer, Dr. Gonzo, dispensed pharma advice and product.

Both GV and I ended up with colds approximately 3 weeks in to the Bulgarian method. May just be a coincidence but I’ve read others with similar experience so I’m guessing it is your body adjusting to the routine.

I agree, either commit to making the lift or just go a bit lighter that day and get it the next. That’s one of the good things about the method, if you have to go lighter today you don’t have to wait a week or more before getting another chance at it.

Dave, the “dark days” might be upon me. I’m feeling a bit off that’s for sure.

Squats: 45 x10, 135 x5, 225 x3, 275 x1, 315 x1, 365 x1, 385 x1, 405 x1, 425 x1, 405 x1, 385 x1, 365 x1.

Bench: 45 x10, 135 x5, 185 x3, 225 x1, 275 x1, 300 x1, 275 x2, 225 x8.

Chins: 10, 7, 6.

Notes: I contemplated skipping today but I did this instead. I got more total sets in but dropped the top set a bit and didn’t try for a PR. 425 was heavy but it moved fast. I paused all the back off sets at rock bottom and I really felt each of them coming out of the hole. Bench feels fine but I don’t think I’m ready to add 5 pounds yet to the top set.

solid stuff Jack. I think paused squats are brutal…and of course effective…

Perhaps Dave is correct, your body has to adjust to the program.

Press: 45 x20, 95 x5, 115 x3, 135 x1, 155 x1, 175 x1, 195 x1, 175 x2, 155 x5, 135 x10.

Deads: 45 x10, 135 x5, 225 x3, 325 x1, 375 x1, 425 x1, 445 x1, 465 x1.

DB OHP: 60s x 10, 10, 10.

Notes: 195 took a little body english and a lot of grind but it went. I wasn’t looking forwards to deads but I got this done. 465 wasn’t exactly light but it didn’t grind. Dinner time.

Everything’s looking solid,solid, solid.

Nice work and may the DARK DAYS pass soon. I’ve had them and will again but on the other side the feeling is like a pile of weight has been lifted off my shoulders. That’s awesome dead work.

DCA, GV, I appreciate the support!

Squats: 45 x10, 135 x5, 225 x3, 275 x1, 315 x1, 365 x1, 405 x1, 425 x1, 445 x1, 401 x1, 365 x1.

Bench: 45 x10, 135 x5, 185 x3, 225 x1, 275 x1, 305 x miss, 275 x2, 245 x4, 225 x7,

Machine Rows: 180 x10, 270 x10, 360 x10, 450 x7, 360 x10, 270 x10, 180 x10.

Notes: I felt good after the day off and I buried 425 easy so I went for 445 despite the recent miss at 440. I’m pretty confident I hit USAPL depth but it wasn’t as deep as all the other reps. All reps except 425 and 445 were paused. Bench was close but no worries. It should go this week or next. I was very happy with tonight’s work.

I went back and looked and here are my top squat sets since Oct. 9 (20 days)

380 x1
385 x1
395 x1
405 x1
415 x1
425 x1
415 x1
430 x1
435 x1
440 x miss
425 x1
445 x1

I feel pretty good about that in a 20 day period with 3 or 4 heavy dead days mixed in.

Thats a great section of squatting. My bench always feels good and seems to be enhanced after heavy squatting…How about you?

JJack,

This is a very impressive training log, it’s tiring just to read it so I can only imagine how much it sucks to have to do. Great work.
