I may have to slack off a bit so you will probably catch me and run me over. On the other hand I may make some sudden jump just to make you work harder. I’m wondering how I should cycle in heavier attempts because I am going to compete in a meet on November 9th and I want to calibrate my squats for my attempts.
LOL, I was just teasing. I’ve got a long ways to go to catch up.
Hey, did you see the guy in the PL forum posting a 10 x 10 workout with 405? I only need 99 more reps in a workout to catch up. On a side note, that guy said he literally got so overtrained he tried to kill himself.
Notes: All sub-400 reps were paused. I buried 405 and it was heavy so I decided to go 415 rather than trying for a PR. The triple at 365 was with a 5 second breathing pause on each rep. 290 came up easy on bench so I suspect 295 will go soon.

That’s the way to play it on the bench. 300 will fall within the next couple of weeks, just keep doing a weight that you are almost sure you can hit every day.
I know some advocate having to beat your previous best each day or fail trying, to me there is no way that won’t beat you up in the long run. Going with the method described above I was able to move from 345 to 370 paused in 28 days so I know it works.
I went to train today but the whole facility was closed for some staff function. I wanted to train because I need to train, but I can’t say my body was too disappointed. I’m feeling a bit beat up.
Notes: 405 is starting to feel more like a working weight. 430 felt very heavy when I unracked and was probably legal depth but very close but it also came up very fast for a max effort. I buried all the backoff sets, but no pause. The 365 triple was probably as deep as I’ve ever hit a squat. Bench felt great, I hit 295 pretty easy and 275 for a triple was a nice bonus. All in all I’m very happy with tonight.
Notes: Squats felt great tonight. 435 was about all I had but I buried it and depth wasn’t an issue. 300 was a grinder but it went! Things are moving north, that’s all I can ask.

Are you squatting and benching every other day? Because it looks like it and if so you’re the man.
I’m trying to lift 5 to 6 days a week depending on my work schedule, with at least one deadlift/press/1 asst. day, the rest squat/bench/1 asst, lift.
Notes: 185 went up easy on Press and I missed it last time. So that’s good. 475 broke off the floor but it didn’t feel right so I dropped it early without trying to grind it. I think I need to re-evaluate what I’m going to do with deads because I don’t think max effort/PR lifts every week are going to work for me like squats. Maybe speed or rep work or submaximal singles. I just don’t know right now.

Deads are a different animal. I don’t have any suggestions, just agreeing…
You are making some great progress.
The biggest gains I’ve ever made with deads was when I didn’t go them at all except for some very light speed work when I ran smolov. I think heavy all the time will just grind me into the dirt.
I agree. If you are maxing the squat, you are hitting all the muscles and there is something a little more brutal about DL’s. I used to find it the other way around when I was young, you know 30, but DL’s just really hit hard now.
Deadlifts are a mystery at our age, but if you crack the code let us know. I do know that some days are diamonds and some stone. Ya never know til you try.
Great progress Jack. Especially after the long break. Very impressive.
