Raw Power

A bit late, but very solid performance at the meet. Try throwing heavy stuff while you’re waiting. It’s fun and passes the time.

Extended deload over.

5’s night, TM 450, deads.

Deads: 135 x10, 225 x10, 315 x5, 345 x5, 385 x8.

Notes: I took a semi-planned post-meet deload that lasted an extra week. My plan is to ease back into it during the holidays and work on gradually increasing my work capacity over the next few weeks.

good to see you easing back into it with 385x8!

sheesh

Great to see you back at it.

welcome back jack

Are you straight back in to 5/3/1 or are you going to try anything new? any tweaks?

Thats fine DLing for working back into it.

Thanks, all, I appreciate it.

Brett, I am going to run 5/3/1 in some form or another at least until I figure out something else to do. I will probably modify bench and overhead press sooner rather than later and stick with the basic program on deads and squats. I wanted to run the Smolov base cycle over Christmas, but work got in the way, and we have a camping trip over new years.

Late to the game. Welcome back Jack. I’m really intrested is seeing how you modify the bench and millie aspect of your training.

Thanks for stopping in, JW. I hope things are going well.

5’s day, Bench, TM 275.

Bench: 45 x30, 135 x15, 185 x5, 215 x5, 235 x11, 225 x5, 5, 5.

BB Rows: 135 x 10, 10, 10, 10, 10.

Incline BB Bench: 60 x10, 70 x10, 80 x10.

Notes: I need to focus on my pulling and conditioning. Both suck right now, so that’s that.

Well, you can’t have gotten THAT weak in the short time since you killed it at the meet.

BTW, a camping trip over New Years? Sounds cold. But then, my idea of camping is the Sheraton.

The extended family and friends (like 50 people or so) head to Fort Warden State Park on New Years every year, in Port Townsend, Wa, on the northern tip of the Olympic Peninsula. Its actually pretty cool, its where they filmed An Officer and a Gentleman. We have access to some of the old Army barracks during the day and the kids play board games and play on the beach or fly kites and the adults play poker or go fishing and the women go shopping in the local boutiques. It usually also blows like hell and the Ocean is really neat to watch this time of year. Its not everyone’s cup of tea, but we really enjoy it.

5’s night, squats, TM 415.

Squats: 45 x10, 135 x10, 225 x5, 275 x5, 315 x5, 355 x10.

Front Squats (paused at rock bottom): 135 x10, 185 x5, 225 x5.

Notes: Easy peasy, time to eat. I had a few in the tank on the money set, but I was winded. Time to start some conditioning work. “Prowler, meet Dust Rag. Dust Rag, meet Prowler.”

Nice work here JJ!

Jack, I hope you are having a fabulous holiday with your family.

I’ll be looking for the prowler in here…

Big squatting jj, looking forward to seeing pics of the prowler.

good work Jack. get that prowler out, it will get you your wind back. Or kill you. one or the other.

Thanks, SteelyD, for stopping in. Kimba, Joe, Pete, the prowler needs to come out. I am going to make conditioning a priority as soon as (maybe before) we get back from camping on Sunday.

5’s day, press, TM 185.

Press: 45 x20, 95 x10, 115 x5, 135 x5, 155 x9, 145 x 5, 5, 5.

WG Pullups: 5, 3, 3, 3, 3.

Notes: Holy Jesus, its been about 6 weeks since I did any vertical pushing or pulling. I am going to be hating it tomorrow. I had planned a lot more for today, but everybody gots a plan until they get punched in the face. Deads tomorrow if I can get my shit ready for camping and also get some work out the door.

Jack- You had a heck of a 2010 with your training! here is to wishing you even greater success in 2011!..

Thanks, OG, I hope you have a great 2011 as well.

3’s day, deads, TM 450.

Deads: 45 x10, 135 x10, 225 x5, 315 x3, 365 x3, 405 x7 (full reset, 1 breath).

GMs: 45 x10, 95 x 5, 5, 5.

Notes: I’m back from a great camping trip, but the additional time off after a long deload didn’t help things any. Time to get to work.

Side notes: I want to start skiing again this spring, which means I need to cut some weight–a lot of weight. That really sucks.

Additional side notes: We bought the boy his first bike on our trip, with training wheels, and he loved it. It was awesome. Also, the weather was great. I snowed on the drive out, then cleared up and got cold, but with zero wind. It was really odd weather for this time of year. It usually rains and blows 35-70 mph at the coast. We got to see a few nuke subs, which was pretty cool as well. A few pics to follow.
