Notes: My pre-meet schedule got all f’d up, and I didn’t get to lift for a few days. So I did this today. 495 was a grinder and was very close to today’s true max. I am hoping to eek out a few more pounds on meet day, but after squats and bench, I think hitting 500 is a long shot. We’ll see.
dude - you and me both with the screwed-up pre-meet training. We’ll just have to see on meet day two Sundays from now!
You don’t mess around do you, you just walk up mad dog the bar and pull it, nice work, for a “true max” 495 looked pretty easy, maybe slower than you would have liked but you didn’t look like missing it was an option.
Joe, Scott, Kimba,Brian, thanks for stopping in! I appreciate the e-support.
George, my stolen motto is “overcome, adapt, improvise.”
Pete, I felt that as well. I also think it spooked me a little. I am going to really work on getting on my heels more and getting in a better position before I start the pull. The bar was also rolling around a little, which fucked with my head as well.
Snapper, that was a pre and post-meal pull. I don’t fuck around on Thanksgiving!
DCA, 1250 would require hitting my second on bench and my thirds on squats and dead, but that’s my goal. Oh, and I wrote that down wrong for squats, my second was 435 not 425. Thanks for catching that.
On the squat depth, fist one you buried it, second, right at parallel, third, if you get some shithead like me calling your depth at the meet, you’ll get a red light by an centimeter or two. A 465 squat is not unreasonable for you at the meet. Keep strong.
Carl, thanks, that’s what I needed to hear. Joe, Farmer Brett, I appreciate the support. Steve, I’m 41 and clocked in at 245 this morning, I don’t think its going to be hard to drop some water weight to get into the 242s. I am really carrying a lot more fat than I want to, I was down to 205 18 months ago.

My fellow 41 year old. But I’m 15-20 lbs heavier. Looking forward to seeing your meet results. I know you’ll do well.
Oh, I love playing squat depth judge! Makes me feel so important.
I have to agree with Carl. First looked good. Second looked right at parallel. You are so damn close, though, and it all comes down to how picky your judges are and what side of the bed they get out of that morning.
Love watching your walkouts. I do “stumbleouts” once the weight gets heavy, so I appreciate watching anyone who looks like it’s a supreme effort to walk it out.

Good luck on Saturday! I think you’ll do great.
I was wondering if anyone would comment on the stumbleouts. I’m not usually that bad, and I don’t usually squat in this gym, but the j-hooks on that rack suck and the holes are in a weird place. I have to drop down another 4 inches to avoid them on the lift out which is like having to do a partial squat just to get it unracked. My unrack with 135 looks just as bad in that position because the bar catches the hooks on the way out every damn time. The only other option there is to use the squat racks, but they have weight holders on the side which catch the weights at the bottom and throw you sideways if you get anywhere close to parallel. That really sucks–I would rather take the hit when I am standing up than at the bottom.
