Raw Power

Its tough with the elbows. Mine really, really hurt when I get them where they are supposed to go on a squat.
I have no excuses. My elbows are fine and really NEED pushing forward. The “loose” grip cue mentioned earlier helped me alot with this yesterday.

Thanks for stopping in, everyone, I’m just back from a semi-planned deload.

Deads: 45 x10, 135 x10, 225 x3, 315 x3, 365 x3, 415 x3, 465 x 1, 1, 1, 1, 315 x 3, 3, 3, 3, 3.

Notes: I am not really sure about my pre-meat plan, and work had forced me out of the gym for a few days, so i thought I would just roll up to around 90 something % and pull it a few times. 465 felt fairly heavy but it also came up quickly, so I was happy with that. The finisher 315 sets were for speed.

a 305 bench! what were your numbers at last year’s meet?

(I’m too lazy to go search it out)
Thanks SD! My total was 1066. I can’t remember the exact numbers because they were in Kilos, but about a 265 bench, 385 squat, and 422 deadlift.
Holy cow Jack!! You’re crushing these numbers now. Really impressive gains.

Great work Jack! Definitely great looking numbers. You’re gonna tear the meet up…

Steve, Skip, thanks, I appreciate the encouragement.

Bench Day.

Bench: 45 x30, 135 x10, 185 x3, 225 x3, 250 x5, 5, 5, 5, 5.

WG Pullups: 5, 5, 4, 4, 3.

OHP: 135 x 5, 150 x 5, 5, 5, 5.

Cable Rows: 5 sets of 10.

Notes: Bench felt pretty good, but my elbows still hurt. Heavier triples next time.

When’s the meet coming up again? You spelled it meat btw. I’m not usually a nazi about spelling but the other day BB said he doesn’t write his training down. He just tracks his meet numbers. While he was squatting I shouted at him about his pork and sausage numbers. I don’t think it helped him but it amused the shit out of me.

Ms O, you are one of the funniest posters on here. The “meet” is Dec. 4. I am a dog-shit speller, and partially (although undiagnosed) dyslexic, but I do make my living mostly through the written word, so mistakes like that are still embarrassing. I would starve if it wasn’t for spell-checking software.

I aim to entertain. I think everyone on here should post their meat numbers

Can we just share pics instead?

You mean like this?–so far today I’ve had 5 pieces of bacon. Don’t know what’s for lunch yet.

Jack, might I suggest you pay attention to the elbows. Maybe have an ART practitioner look at those? They’ve been hurting you for awhile.

Jack,

Just watched your squat video, I got a leg cramp and pulled a hammy. One more reason I never film leg workouts, I can see in the mirror that I am going nowhere near as low as you. Awesome work

Jack, did you read the updated 5/3/1 for powerlifters?? Switching weeks 1 and 2 and adding in some singles after working sets.

Kimba, you are absolutely right, of course, and I intend to look into that.

Brian, thanks, I appreciate that.

Steve, no, I have not seen that yet. I am going to check it out.

Right under the recent articles on the home page: ‘5/3/1 reloaded’

Steve, that looks interesting. I may give that a go.

Squat Night!

45 x10, 135 x10, 225 x5, 315 x3, 365 x3, 405 x3, 425 x 2, 2, 2, 2.

Notes: Squats felt pretty good tonight. I guessed on the weight, I think I could hit this for a triple, but I wanted some volume. So I did 4 doubles. The last rep of the last set was a grinder, so I think I guessed right.

Side notes: I’ll have to get a picture up, but the squat racks at the place I was at tonight were set up with weight holders on the side that were in the way when you hit depth. I got pitched to the side a few times on the warm up sets until I figured out what was going on. It forces you to take extra steps out if you want to avoid it. I guess they figure no one there is going to hit depth. I talked to the one the trainers about it, and he said it was a known problem, but that management didn’t give a shit about it.

Very nice squattin’, Jack. Damn you’re looking strong.

At least the trainer was honest.

Yep. I keep mentioning to the manager of my gym that they need another curl rack, but no go so far. Not sure if he even gets the joke.

LS, Rug, thanks for stopping in!

Bench day:

Bench 45 x30, 95 x15, 135 x10, 185 x3, 225 x3, 250 x1, 275 x 3, 3, 3, 3.

WG Pullups: 6, 5, 4, 4.

OHP: 135 x5, 175 x 3, 3, 3, 3, 135 x10.

It’s a curl/shrug rack. That’s why he didn’t get the joke.
