Raw Power

Nice work Jack. It’s tough when life interferes with our fun. I don’t get hit too bad because I train at home and sometimes I just head out to the garage to hide.

When I head into a meet, I put together a work-back schedule with the peak arriving on the day of the meet and just work the weights back from there. It’s nothing fancy but it’s worked well for me in the past.

Snapper, its the sleeping 16 hours a day during Smolov that I don’t have time for. Ms. O, I do the same thing, but this time its a rough pencil I’m using.

Meet prep 5’s day, bench and press combo.

Bench: 45 x30, 135 x15, 185 x5, 215 x5, 235 x11, 225 x 5, 5, 5.

WG Pullups/Fat Bar: 4, 3, 3, 3, 3.

OHP: 95 x5, 135 x5, 155 x8, 135 x5, 5, 5.

Krock Rows: 125 x10, 10, 10.

Notes: I felt pretty good tonight. I like the 4 basic lifts with the push pull.

GPP: Walked hills with dogs for an hour, 20 min. I’d like to squat today, but I’ll need to get lower-back approval. It has veto authority. I am going to try and coax it with a big plate of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and sausage. Otherwise, squats to tomorrow.

5’s day Meet Prep, Squats, TM 425.

Squats: 45 x10, 135 x10, 225 x5, 315 x5, 335 x5, 365 x 8.

Notes: My lower back was still fried after deads on Thurs., and it cried uncle after the money set. So that was it. It is still in considerable distress right now. I will likely take tomorrow off, then hopefully bench again on Monday.

GPP: 1 hour hill walk with two dogs.

Thanks, Scott. I squat fairly narrow by PL standards, my heals are about shoulder width. I sometimes adjust them in depending on how my hips and lower back feel if I need to rely more on my quads to get the job done.

Do you find you get alot of hip pain? I squat wide, like, sumo dead wide. When Im in good form, it’s very easy. However I find my hips do take a beating. I have been contemplating trying to squat with my feet closer. Hopefully to take the hip pain down a notch.

The wider I squat, the more my hips hurt, period. When I ran Smolov last winter, I had to really adjust them in just to complete the program. Now I try and find a happy medium. If I don’t overdo the volume, I can get away with going a little wider. I don’t like pulling sumo for the same reason.

RAW squatting and wide stance tears the heck out of the hips.

Pec Dec: 120 x10, 140 x10, 160 x8.

Dips: BW x 14

Curls: Some x 20.

Notes: My back still hurts, and I am not sure what’s going to happen next time I try and pull. It did not bother me all that much during today’s workout, however, so we shall see.

Nice Squattin there jjack. Depth looks really good, but what the hell is that music in the backround…LOL!! When is your meet? I assume it’s not 5 days out

Had to turn the volume up to hear the music, but it was something to watch your quads working. That was as impressive as the weight.
