Raw Oats Okay?

Is it ok to eat raw oats? I usually like to use them in a shake every morning. Should I only be eating it cooked?

Most oats are actually steamed before they’re rolled and packaged so if you’re talking about Quaker oats (not the instant type) or a similar product you’re good to go. True raw grains might be a bit harder to digest but they won’t do you any harm except maybe make you gassy until you adapt to them.

Eat them any way you like.

I add raw oats to my smoothies all the time!

I grind them up in a blender and add them to whatever i want.

(Use a coffee grinder, im just cheap n wont buy one)

They’re horribly toxic if eaten raw. You should count yourself lucky that you haven’t keeled over dead in the gym yet.

I’m surprised you haven’t heard of toxic oats syndrome. I think Oprah did a special on it.

S

ha; good one Stu.

yeah…totally toxic treat.

if Oprah says it, well it must be true!!

I forgot…you can only eat pasteurized oatmeal raw. Next time, look for the pasteurized kind or you could get salmonella poisoning!!!

No problem.

I much prefer the taste and texture of soaked oats over cooked oats anyday. I like to put 1/2 cup of oats (raw) in a 32oz gatorade bottle with 1 cup milk, 1 cup water, 1 scoop protein, 2 tbsp milled flax seed (40gm/crb, 40gm/pro, 8gm/fat, 8gm/fiber) the night before, and drink it in the morning. After letting them soak for several hours they are as soft as if cooked, but taste slightly different in a better way.
