Good on ya spar! Haha. My goal is to total elite by the time im 30.
See, I don’t really care where I place, I just don’t want to miss a lift because of some stupid, my fault, form error.
I am not even worried about the deadlifting or the benching, I just don’t want to fuck up my squats and get in a pissy mood for the rest of the meet.
I have this thingie that I always stare at on the wall for my squatting and that wont be there. OMGZZZ, where will I look?! Anyway, ya, I really want to do this! I have a lot of questions/reading/learning to do, but I think it will be really good for me. I get excited if I see ONE powerlifter at a distance, I can’t imagine how I’ll feel being in a building with a wHOLE BUNCH OF EM! WOO HOoOOo!
You’ll squat fine. Open light then go for your goals.

Honestly, when I squatted at the meet, I didn’t “see” anything.

I guess I’ll post some numbers. I’m 18 and I’d like my next meet to go something like 590/425/635 no wraps @ 220.[/quote]

LOL I haven’t hit the numbers yet, but I plan to in a matter of months.
Just made weight, now trying to get it all back on, Eating and sleeping all day, tomorrow the hammer shall be dropped and I will destroy.

You don’t have to be THE best. Just be YOUR best. I don’t compare myself to guys like Ed Coan and KK. That’d be dumb and I’d lose all motivation and start an herb garden outback. Just sign up for a meet with a goal and go for it. You’ll be fine. People on this site tend to make fun and be assholes and rarely remember powerlifting is a huge family and you should push everyone to get better. If you only squat 135 pounds but you show up at a meet, I say good for you. You had the balls and dedication to show up and lift at a meet.
Stop thinking in terms of winning and losing and start thinking in terms of progression.

This x9000.
He’s absolutely right. Powerlifting is a family sport. Not literally (well, for the Lillibridges it may be), but figuratively. Listen, Ed Coan trains me for free. I pay my gym membership every month, show up when I’m supposed to, bust my ass, then leave. Ed does this for a lot of people because he’s just like all the other powerlifters out there: he wants to help people get strong and help them become not only a better lifter, but a better person, as well. He’s helped me become a stronger person inside and out. Powerlifting is a very giving sport as I’ve learned over the past 4 months from training with Ed. I can’t thank him and my training partners enough. I know all the work will pay off come the time when I finally step on the platform July 28 with my lifting family behind me and cheering me on.

AWWWWEEE, that was beautiful luke ! I was talking to one of my powerlifting friends (the only person I know in all of edmonton who powerlifts, ha!) and he said he would help me out in any way that he can ! I was all “SEE! This is why I LOVE powerlifters! They’re all so darn nice!”
So true.
I hope he can coach me on my squat a few times, that would be awesome.
Best of luck to you LM! Go crush it! And yeah I think you nailed it buddy. The best powerlifter ever is willing to take time to teach you. I think that says a lot for our sport/lifestyle.

if you dont mind , I’ve got a remedy for this . a few weeks before the meet ( more is better than less ) , start squatting facing the opposite direction if possible ( depending on equipment ).
or change racks if your gym has more than one .
but definitely get used to NOT looking at the thingie on the wall . and get used to having people in front of you .
I hear ya on the squat-nerves though . it’s my head fuck lift too . so open VERY light like others have said …crush it and all the jitters go away .

I can’t be the only one who is very interested in what REAL natural records are for powerlifting. Of course you can look tested federations but it’s rather easy to cheat.

lol sap
I’m 21 years old, currently weigh 223 and my best gyms lifts are 435/350/520, the squat and bench were done at a BW of 240, I am competing in two weeks in a 100% Raw meet at 220. I am hoping for something like 425/350/550+.
I am looking forward to breaking the coveted 100% Raw, 220 lbs, 20-24 year old, bench, deadlift, and total records… for the state of Nebraska.
Went 552/308/556 today. Left about 90 lbs out there though. Gotta go claim it at worlds and then some.
LM thats just sick man! You got this!
sup?
