Ha! 624!
A whole pile of stuff that I didn’t read.

I like curling in the squat rack. It makes me feel manly.
Oh - WAIT! Ohh err - shit did I say that out loud? damn - shit…
That was your ez curl bar I had to pick out of the rack wasn’t it? sigh.
Tell the truth, shame the devil.

heh heh heh.
My gym only has one power rack - no squat racks. Even if we had squat racks, I would still squat in the power rack because the sides of the squat rack are too high for me when going deep.
Why in the hell do they even build squat racks that you have to back out of to actually squat? Some genius 1/4 squatter came up with that idea.
If I have a heavy load, I don’t want to have to back up 4 feet. I like the additional safety of the power rack.
I’ve wondered about that myself. I think some of the equipment at my gym was designed by people that have never actually worked out.

However I generally find that people are willing to leave if you need the rack to squat
Amazing. You mean if you politely request to use the space to squat, they actually let you?
What kind of civilized society are you living in?
i know its this incredible society, i really wonder if half of the people on these forums who complain about squat rack curlers have simply approached them like a normal person and ask them, however it does help to be one of the bigger and one of the strongest guys in my gym lmao

So another retard at my gym decided to do 70lb curls in one of the two squat racks that we have. This guys had to be in his early 60’s. I asked him if he was really planning on continuing his obscene behavior or not and he replied with “nope, all done.”
Now I asked him why he really needed to curl 70lbs in a squat rack and he replies with “It’s just easier, I don’t have to lift the weight off the ground.” …This just set me off, I replied with “Isn’t this why you come to the gym? To lift? It’s called a squat rack for a reason. Walk away.”
I just dont understand the real benefit to curling in the squat rack when we have straight bar pre-weighted barbells on the other side of the gym. I’d personally rather pick the weight up off the ground vs loading a bar with bitch weight. Quit being a pussy and pick them up. It’s called a squat rack for a reason.
End rant.
I think perhaps we should be giving people the age of our parents and grandparents a pass if need be. I dont know the condition of the gentleman you are speaking of, but if he legitimately in his 60’s(and he may have been in his 70’s if he had been working out long enough to keep his youthful look) I think they might get a pass.
It may genuinely be very difficult for a geriatric lifter to lift 70 pounds off the floor… Back problems are very common in the older population.
Training a girl yesterday, she was super setting squats with bench press.
I felt bad when she was benching and this guy asked if we were still using the squat rack. After I said yes, he walks over to the bench next to us to use it for curling
After my back workout was all done Wednesday I went into the squat rack, grabbed the 45 lbs. barbell that was there and did burnout sets of curls. Just to spite all of you.
my gym is very funny when it comes to “gym rules” the only real rule is rack the weight or you’’ lose ur membership on the spot… its posted everywhere with the owners signature and it still happens…

haven’t you made this joke before?

Srsly I wish LA fitness would do this. In college our strength coaches had no tolerance for unracked weights. If you left an area without reracking the weights you got to spend some time on Jacob’s Ladder.
Walking into LA Fit after the evening peak crowd you would think they had a goddamn dumbbell fight in there.

it wasn’t a joke.
Approaching squat rack curlers is impossible because most of them are totally oblivious and will immediately complain to management that you are being overly aggressive. Been there, experienced that shit.
I went with my father to his fancy-schmancy “fitness club” this weekend. I usually work out at home, but they have treadmills, plus I figured me and him could bond over weights.
Anyway, all was good. No lifting platform, but a squat rack. I got done with my squats and weighted chins there… and then I went to bench press, and experienced first-hand THE HORRORS OF TEH FITNESS CLUB! .
I ask a personal trainer there for a spot. With a mean face - perhaps because I was outlifting his client by a wide margin - he says “yes.” then, he proceeds to stand to the side of the bench as I press. I didn’t ask him for help on any of my other sets… What a moron!
Of course, I saw the usual fitness club horrors, too. People taking leisurely strolls on the treadmills; girls with pink dumbells, swinging wildly every which way; every variation of the bench press and bicep curl known to man. And everyone was chatting between sets. Laughing. Joking. Smiling. Happy. Taking it easy
“Oh, my brothers, this is not the way a gym should be,” I thought to myself

Maybe it’s your approach.
I’ve politely requested that someone move before, and have never had a problem.
Christine, in most cases that would be correct. I actually did this today, maybe 4 hours ago.
Me: Excuse me, do you mind if I squat here?
Him: I am using the rack.
Me: You are doing swiss ball crunches. Could you please move to the open gym floor?
Him: I was here first. I only have 5 more sets.
Me: I would like to utilize the squat rack for squatting, but I cannot because of someone performing swiss ball crunches there.
Staff: Just wait until he is done.
I started my squats 20 minutes later.
So, yea … I’m a pretty small guy so I doubt that I am intimidating to anyone. Not to mention, I grew up in a world of violence so I try to be as peaceful as possible when interacting with people I do not know.
njrumc,
I’d join a new gym then if you can. It sounds like you’re surrounded by tools.

LOL I actually laughed out loud when I read that you said “I would like to utilize the squat rack”
I can see you trying to be as respectful as possible, but this is how you really feel.
“GET THAT MOTHER FUCKER OFF THE SQUAT RACK AND TAKE THEIR ASS ELSEWHERE!”
Staff: Just wait until he is done
In the UK we don’t have squat racks or power racks for curling
So most people do it in the smith machine
