You ARE insecure. You have spent years here insulting everyone else, you have an absolutely warped idea of what it means to be a man, and some vendetta against psychologists which I can only guess comes from spending your entire childhood in front of them and being diagnosed with aspergers.

I’m willing to bet good money you were some lanky dork with glasses all the way through school, but you never grew out of it.

The asperger’s thing is getting old. Wasn’t particularly poignant or entertaining the first time you went for it, and (possibly) unlike you it hasn’t matured into anything better since. Making fun of people for having a brand of autism doesn’t bespeak much maturity.

Every insult you drop in here undermines the message of your OP significantly. Your bipolar posting really makes it difficult to put a lot of credence in even the relevant or intelligent things that you discuss.
Ahhhhhh, autism and bi-polar. 2 modern day made up disorders that simply do not exist.
I wasn’t using bipolar in the sense of a disorder.

Have you ever actually interacted with someone diagnosed with aspergers or another variety of autism?

EDIT: NVM, I’m sure you’ve seen elderly people around, yet you still deny aging.
I’m just going to chime in on the whole “made up ‘disorders’” … i have a cousin, he’s 8, who is diagnosed w/ aspergers. There’s a difference in his behavior and interactions with his siblings/family. The kid’s not right, he doesn’t recognize obvious social cues and does have the symptoms associated with aspergers.

Say what you want about these “new” disorders or what ever you want to call them; they might be overly diagnosed (add, adhd, etc.) but they ARE real. it does affect families/individuals and shouldn’t be dismissed because you haven’t ever come in contact with someone exhibiting the symptoms or have some weird skewed view (or are just unaware) of the diagnosis process.

I’m specifically talking to RogueVampire or whatever you call yourself. I’m not aware of your credentials (or, more likely, lack there of) when it comes to psychological issues, and you ARE entitled to your opinion, but when you spout off about shit you have no idea about, you look like an dumbass.

Fair enough. I don’t see a whole lot of that, though it’s definitely a location thing. The pack mentality/macho image thing around me is related to wealth/appearance. The people who piss me off the most are the ones who are elitist without justification (they just have family money and aren’t really ‘good people’ in a social or skill-related sense) and think extremely highly of themselves/love to show it.

In high school, I played football with a kid who was diagnosed with asperger’s. Really one of the nicest kids I’ve ever met, but his social awareness was significantly impaired (in a way that goes well beyond your standard shaded-toward-antisocial labels like being a ‘geek’). Regardless of whether autism/other psychological conditions are treated correctly (I personally think we’re shaded toward over-medication these days), I think it’s tough to outright deny their existence.

Im not saying every disease or disorder is made up. But, it seems nowadays, every single kid has adhd. Or we call someone bipolar to excuse their criminal behavior.

I don’t think people are obsessed with comparing themselves to others. It’s just something that kind of happens. That is how humans (and a lot of other animals) are wired. Complaining about it is like complaining about Earth’s gravitational pull. It just is. Use it to your advantage.

Insulting “everyone else”?

LOL

Are you trying to be this much of a hypocrite or is it by accident?

Oh, and I don’t have anything against psychologists. I have something against uneducated laypeople on message boards acting like they are diagnosing illnesses and diseases online. That goes for people diagnosing spinal disorders based on a myspace picture and what you are doing in this thread.

Lol to the OP diagnosing Prof X with Asperger’s Syndrome through the interwebz. OP, you do realise that there are specific criteria for diagnosing Asperger’s in the ICD-10 and DCM-IV? You do realise that there are physical and behavioural traits indicative of autism, that can’t be assessed through words typed on an internet forum?

And RogueVampire, do you even know what Asperger’s Syndrome and Bipolar Affective Disorder are?

x2. Excellent post.

There aren’t any “made-up” disorders. They are all legit. The problem is that there are made-up symptoms for people who want to have an easy life by making people take it easy on them for having said disorder when they’re really just lazy, entitled fucks.

My roommate is like this. He says he has ADHD, but he’ll turn around a sit and play Call of Duty for hours. Sure seems like you’re paying attention pretty well and not acting hyperactive at all. So I guess you can just pick and choose when it affects you, right? Like it only comes out when it’s time to clean up after yourself around the house or something else you don’t like doing. Then you cry: “but I have ADHD, you can’t expect me to do things I don’t want to do”. As an example.

The op sounded ok at first, but I guess he has sand in his vagina now since so many people called him out for being hypocritical pretty much this entire thread. I guess that makes me a homophobic bro-hick now by his standards.

Take it as flattery. You’re getting attention for something that you worked hard to achieve and not everyone knows how to compliment you for it, since they’re most likely jealous if anything else. Let them be jealous and make an ass out of themselves and move it along. That’s what I do, it happens to me sometimes, too and I’m not even nearly as big as a lot of the people who post here.

The correct answer isn’t to judge them in return and lower yourself to their level.

Why would you take other peoples’ actions as any less than a compliment or flattery? It’s not like they’re walking up so they can tell you how weak and pathetic you are, right? So a drunk guy bags on you for being muscular. Wow, and I thought I had problems in my life, sounds like your life sucks homy, glad I’m not you. I’d never want a group of chicks I’ve never met groping me because they like my body. What guy would like that? Come on?

edit: but their are people with all of these disorders, legitimately. I coached a kid with asbergers last summer on my swim team. He was clearly messed up in the head. There were only certain ways you could get through to him and you had to be extremely, extremely patient. We worked with him and saw some improvement. When you got through to him, it was crazy how good he was all things considered. A lot of the parents of the other kids encouraged me not to keep him on the team over it. These disorders do exist and they weigh heavily on the friends and family of the people who have it even more than the people who have it themselves in many cases. Wouldn’t have made it through if his dad didn’t hang over him every day throughout every practice and help me try to keep him under control while developing his swimming skills as best we could.

I have friends with legit ADD/ADHD. It’s obvious when they’re not taking their medicine.
