Tiger Woods is by nearly triple of De La.

Not to mention that De La Hoya isn’t fighting guys built like Tyson in his prime.
What about Royce?

lol, I’m just trying to add fuel to the fire lol

This thread is hilarious. You see guys like the OP was referring to at every gym. They spend more time make sure the entire gym knows that they are there pushin some serious iron around. Meanwhile, their crap is all over the gym, they monopolize equipment, they never unload their plates, they spend more time admiring themselves in the mirror than they do lifting, etc.

Theres a guy in my gym who complains about these types of members *exactly* the same way as the OP has. Only difference is that this particular guy is ~240, has squatted over 800 lbs in competition and is the state overall USAPL record holder for his class. (Ok, time for the over 200 club` to chime in here and justify/represent.)

To me, this thread is more about big, fin A-holes in the gym than it is about little mans syndrome/complex. And don`t tell me I missed the point, cause I got it.

I’m way late on this thread, but the original rant was one of the funniest posts I’ve seen here in awhile. While most who had a problem with the OP are probably correct in assuming it was out of jealousy (that “for the Smaller Guys” in the thread title seems to be a clue), the story itself is amusing.

I only found it hilarious because, as others have said, we’ve all seen “those guys” in the gym. The genie pants, the year-round fake n’ bake tan, the belt that stays strapped on at all times (yes, even while doing abs), the doo-rag that says “Bad to the Bone”, the constant screaming at the top of the lungs, etc., etc…

For me personally, it’s got nothing to do with jealousy or disrespecting someone’s accomplishments or size. That I’ll give them props all day for. It’s just amusing to watch the circus that some bodybuilders make their workouts to be.

In every gym you go to, there are gonna be either 1. Animals or 2.Quasi Animals that think they are animals but end up acting like D-bags instead.

In my gym there are probably 5 dudes that I look at and say “OK , you’re a beast” and give props to…then there are those that arent quite as big/defined at all but try to make up for the size differential with attitude…THOSE are the guys that I think OP was referring to…

Now these guys used to get to me too but as I have grown up I don’t let their attitude bother me at all. Infact the only people I legitimately look at and say, “what the fck is this kid doing?” are the 140lb kids that are going to hurt themselves with the amount of weight they are using on a particular exercise(usually squats or bench)

Exactly. I don’t question those guys for their strength and size, and the way they act is certainly not something I’m going to let “bother” me. There are far more important things to focus on while I’m there. It’s just fun to watch between sets every once in awhile.

the original post was all about size and all about how smaller lifters should be respected more. This was much LESS about someone simply being obnoxious and much MORE about how upset the OP is that bigger people than him exist and get noticed more in the gym. How did you miss that?

That’s your perception. I don’t live inside your head and so I won’t see things the same way as you do nor will I attach more or less significance to the same parts of the post as you.

When I read his post, I don’t see size as being the main focus so much as the “big guy” and his many acts of douchebaggery.

I’m sorry, but size was the main focus. Not only that, but what were the many acts of “douchebaggery”? If the OP were minding his own business in the gym, none of those “acts” would have made any difference. Doing several reps of an exercise does not equal “douchebaggery”.

Give the topic of the thread (i.e. “Rant for the Smaller Guy”), I don’t see how you’d suggest that size is the main’t point of the OP.

His complaint is that the bigger guys act like D-Bags and that the smallers guys don’t get any respect.

If size is the point and the goal, then smaller guys don’t deserve any respect.

If all about strength or body composition (for example, Frank Zane was 5’9" 185 on season), then sure, if you fit the criteria you’ll get the respect.

No one will respect something just for being small (unless they’re anorexic).

You all make valid points.

I still believe that the post has more to do with douchebaggery than simple big versus small.

Continuing the debate really isn’t an effective use of my time, so I’m out.

Have fun, all.

“douchebaggery”

I love it. I have to add that to my mental dictionary and use it quite often.

Here we go…in BBing, size alone is douchebaggery. Size, proportion, symmetry and bodyfat is not douchebaggery.

For strength events, nothing is douchebaggery.

Height is douchebaggery in both although it can have its pluses and minuses in both.

BTW, is it just me, or are all these little guys all fanboys who are following someone else’s “method”? Maybe I’m mistaken, but it’s been my experience that most bigger guys are able to (because of experience) draft their own workouts and need not print out the latest and greatest thing from the internet.
We are ALL not…

There should be a law, once a thread is a year old, it expires.

I was doing dead lifts in front of the power rack and the only guy I saw doing squats (also doing overhead and dl) walks up to me and asks if he can use the cage for leg raises…sad day lol
