Ramping with a Dynamic Effort Bench or Squat

I have tried a protocol where I start at about 50% of my max on the bench or squat and do DE doubles or triples. I will then ramp up but continue to try to do DE reps. My idea was to work up to a max 2-3 rep set but by trying to use DE all the way up the ramp, but I tend to feel weaker at the top weights when I ramp up DE style. Is there a reason for that? Just that I am working harder, or that the fast reps make the heavy reps feel slower and harder? Is this a “rate coding” thing? Is this a good or bad protocol to ramp all the way up to a 2-3 rep max using DE reps even if the reps become slow, or is it better to stop when the weights get slower?

Thank you!

It’s not a rate coding thing. It’s a CNS activation thing. The dynamic effort, especially the intent to kill the bar with speed will increase adrenaline which amps up the nervous system, increasing strength and speed from set to set.

And yes, that’s how you should perform a ramp.
