Ramadan Tip

to the Muslims on T-Nation. dont forget to turn off the powerful images during Ramadan (i tihnk you know why).

Ramadan Mubarak to you all.

also, the Prophet’s sermon on welcoming the month of Ramadan:

"O People ! Indeed ahead of you is the blessed month of Allah. A month of blessing, mercy and forgiveness. A month which with Allah is the best of months. Its days, the best of days, its nights, the best of nights, and its hours, the best of hours. It is the month which invites you to be the guests of Allah and invites you to be one of those near to Him. Each breath you take glorifies him; your sleep is worship, your deeds are accepted and your supplications are answered. So, ask Allah, your Lord; to give you a sound body and an enlightened heart so you may be able to fast and recite his book, for only he is unhappy who is devoid of Allah’s forgiveness during this great month. Remember the hunger and thirst of the day of Qiyamah (Judgment) with your hunger and thirst; give alms to the needy and poor, honor your old, show kindness to the young ones, maintain relations with your blood relations; guard your tongues, close your eyes to that which is not permissible for your sight, close your ears to that which is forbidden to hear, show compassion to the orphans of people so compassion may be shown to your orphans. Repent to Allah for your sins and raise your hands in dua during these times, for they are the best of times and Allah looks towards his creatures with kindness, replying to them during the hours and granting their needs if he is asked…

"O People! Indeed your souls are dependant on your deeds, free it with Istighfar (repentance), lighten its loads by long prostrations; and know that Allah swears by his might: That there is no punishment for the one who prays and prostrates and he shall have no fear of the fire on the day when man stands before the Lord of the worlds.

“O People! One who gives Iftaar to a fasting person during this month will be like one who has freed a slave and his past sins will be forgiven.” Some of the people who were there then said to the Prophet (s): “Not all of us are able to invite those who are fasting”

The Prophet (s) replied: “Allah gives this reward even if the Iftaar (meal) is a drink of water.” "One who has good morals (Akhlaq) during this month will be able to pass the ‘Siraat’ on the day that feet will slip … "One who covers the faults of others will benefit in that Allah will curb His anger on the day of Judgment…

"As for one who honors an orphan; Allah will honor him on the day of judgment, "And for the one who spreads his kindness, Allah will spread His mercy over him on the day of Judgment. "As for the one who cuts the ties of relation; Allah will cut His mercy from him … "Whosoever performs a recommended prayer in this month Allah will keep the fire of Hell away from him … "Whoever performs an obligatory prayer Allah will reward him with seventy prayers [worth] in this month. "And who so ever prays a lot during this month will have his load lightened on the day of measure. "He who recites one verse of the Holy Quran will be given the rewards of reciting the whole Quran during other months. “O People! Indeed during this month the doors of heaven are open, therefore ask Allah not to close them for you; The doors of hell are closed, so ask Allah to keep them closed for you. During this month Shaytan (Satan) is imprisoned so ask your Lord not to let him have power over you.”

hmm i made a search for “Ramadan” to see if there’s any tips on working out/ nutrition and found this post of mine. so i thought instead of starting a new thread, i’d add to this one.

any one have tips on how to workout/ eat in ramadan?

should one go heavy or light, etc?

I’m thinking I’d continue the program Dan John outlined in his Strong Eye for a Weak Eye which I’m loving.

I’m thinking on the three days a week in which I work out, I’ll do something like this:

At time of iftar: two scoops whey protein, some dates. maybe some carbs from fruits or something.

then gym 30 minutes later. have Surge-like drink before and during the workout.

then post-work drink.

then meal 40 minutes later. not sure tho. anyone have any tips? maybe just a meal after the workout, without the pwo drink? maybe no protein before working out? just aminos or something? i’m not sure how to go about it. i need to cram in lots of protein in this little time.

and lots of milk for suhoor before the fasting begins for the slow releasing protein.

any non-muslims have any tips on what to do after having fasted from eating and drinking until sunset?

oh wait, this thing is in the politics and world issues forum. maybe i should have started a new thread for this on the nutrition forum.

Kill jews, Zionists and worshipers of the cross by day, pig out at night!

plus, the last time i tried doing that, it left me too exhaused to do my deadlifts and squats.

damn infidels. if you just stop resisting it would make it so much easier for us, and much less painful for you.

It’s not really a bulking month is it, half way through I start missing the pre-dawn meal.

What are you, learning disabled? Here, let me make it simple for you.

Muslim does not mean terrorist.

Muslim does not mean extremist.

Muslim does not mean killer.

Just because a bunch of psychos are perverting the name of Islam doesn’t mean all or even most Muslims agree with them. Your idiotic generalizations are pointless and without merit.

He is right.

Just because some Muslims take their religion seriously does not mean that the large rest of them cannot learn to twist their faith like a brezel into a religion of peace like the Jews or Christians did.

See, they allready believe in weird stuff for no good reason, we only have to make them believe in other weird stuff.

Sorry, dude. I don’t think there are many Ramadaners that post around here, lest they have a laser guided rammed up their ass with precision accuracy for having the audacity to exist.

Now that’s funny…Keep your carbs down and your protien high and you should be fine. Temporal nutrition is out. I don’t know if you can drink teas during the day, but if you can, try yerba mate before you work out.

BTW…Sorry for the slam, it was uncalled for, but worth it given your response!

You were good until the word ‘but’.

can’t drink during the day…

well, i’ll keep experimenting the first week until i find my groove. no worries about what you said. thanks for being a gentleman at the end.

Hi Silencer.

I assume you will be doing your training either before dawn or after sunset, considering you wouldn’t be able to have a pre- or post-workout shake, or even a drink of water between sets if you trained during the day.

I don’t know if you’ve seen this, but here is a thread on Bodybuilding.com that may be of interest.

Yes, you do have to scroll a bit past the infantile insults posted by small-minded assholes (good thing we don’t have people like that on T-Nation), but below is one of the the most thorough posts, in my opinion. I might forego the glutamine, and take your ZMA, and of course make a HUGE batch of Metabolic Drive pudding to wolf down throughout the night.

Ramadan mubarak.
I know how u feel bro …i am prepairing for Ramadan as well, i am pretty excited though. This is my 7th Ramdan while working out …i’ve been able to maintain my size thru all Ramadans , as a matter of fact, sometimes i would gain some weight.

Here is my plan :

For Iftar , breakfast, eat something light that is full of protein. U also need some CArbs to regenrate the energy loss, because while fasting you become tired and fatigue and u feel like u are out of energy…u can start with the traditional Dates or some fruits, hot soup of u wish and a protein shake. For me, i would eat 7 dates, chicken noodle soup, protein shake.

Give it time to digest.

Take Glutamine Before your workout

When u work out, never workout for too long (more than 60 minutes), or at you max poundages… workout for maintinance.

After that, eat another small post-workout meal or drink … something with carbs that have a high GI … and protein … usually i would have a post-workout drink…or somtimes a banan/sweet potato, with a protein shake.

one hour after that, u can eat a regular meal , the official Iftar u can say … chicken, beef, fish …what ever u have planned for. Eat fruits and vegtables …

You can take a nap …and wake up around midnight …eat another small meal and a shake …go back to sleep

wake up before Sahoor, around 3 A.m. …have another small meal, a lot of fruits, some complex carbs and protein.

30 minutes before Fajir prayer … eat high protein foods that will fill u up like eggs and cottage cheese …i usually eat 10 eggs , oats , and a shake

And then take at least 10-15g of glutamine before u sleep.

The main thing … is to try and snack every once in a while…and keep inserting food to your system to keep the nutrients flowing in your body. The glutamin helps you body to prevent the muscle break down.

Also, never forget to enjoy the beauty of Ramadan and the prayers. Resume your normal life style man …and you will never be dissapointed… try to sleep enough , eat enough (around six meals from sunset to sunrise), and workout 3 times a week no more. Dont over load your body.

Good luck
One more thought. It’s too late to try this year, but next year, why not shift more of your caloric intake to nighttime, starting, say, at the beginning of September 2007. That way you’ll have a solid two weeks to ease into a Ramadan metabolism before the fast actually begins.

wow thanks a lot for finding that great plan. well, it involves waking up more than once but if i can get myself to do it, that would be great.

and what you said about ramadan prep sounds like a good idea too, hopefully i’ll do that next year.

thanks!

I seem to be up all night every night. I will call you to wake you up and remind you to eat if you want.

I just meant the resonse was funny enough that I was glad I got to experience it. Had I not been so crass I wouldn’t have experienced it. It does not excuse my behaviour, but I had a good chukle as a result of his good humor.
