Racial Inequality: What Should Be Done?

The US occupation in 1915 didn’t do Haiti any favors.

Taxation is punishment?

What’s the difference between a tax and a fine?

No … it was released this week

Good question. I’ve asked that for years.

IMO, I get something in return for taxes. It might no be ideal, but better than reparations.

No way the government is giving you something better than $150 million.

A 50% cut would result in the loss of a lot of sweet, sweet tax revenue. When the city is unsafe people will leave and drive those really expensive property values down.
They shouldn’t cut any of it, but I am betting it will be a token cut as you suggested.
They can just see how well cutting staff and money went in NY. It ain’t going well and they haven’t even cut the funds, yet. But they did terminate a couple of departments and the city is reeling.

If they do cut anything, it should be the police that protect the politicians first.

My money is on housing staying high in seattle regardless. No room for expansion, tons of young people with high paying jobs, and sooooo much cool stuff going on in the City and the surrounding area. What they have to worry about is comapnies like Amazon, Google, Facebook all abandoning Seattle and moving their camuses accross the lake to Bellevue… thats why a big tax on the wealthy was passed by the council and then rescinded last year under threat from the big companies.

the mayor, who is publicly and vocally AGAINST the cut, has offered that some of the cut would come in the form of moving the funding for 911 dispatch out from the under the police budget, etc. Its all posturing until we get a bill that folks can vote on. things will get wittled down, and compromises will be made. The SPD will have its budget cut, and it will be enough that they have to find way to trim the fat, but not so much that it risks public safety.

Given it has one of the most progressive hiring policies in the country, it will hurt minorities.

Wrong. The police Chief and mayor have both said that new hires would be the priority to keep on (in large part because they’re cheaper). SPD has only had progressive hiring policies recently. They will be retiring the old guard first, which are the ones who caused so many problems that SPD was found to “have a pattern of brutality and racial bias” by the DOJ and was forced into the progressive hiring policies in the first place among other mandated changes.

Total Unsubstantiated Rumor Alert: I heard that after the Rodney King riots and cleanup of the LAPD, a lot of the officers that got fired moved up to Seattle and joined the SPD, which is why the SPD had so many issues till they finally got slapped down by the DOJ in 2011.

Cutting the budget would mean fewer jobs.

*fewer jobs with SPD.

…more jobs available in whatever City run dept/program that money gets redistributed to.

If it makes it that far. DeBlasio’s wife can’t account for 850 million dollars.

Some self loathing white douche here in Stl refused to make sandwiches for police. Walked off the job. 3 days later the cunt was carjacked and had his jaw broken and 3 teeth knocked out. The cocksucker refused to cooperate. SLWL are a cancer to black Americans
