My left pec insertion does this thing where it fucking sucks and freaks the fuck out when I bench wide. I don’t have a choice, I’m aware it’s not optimal, on a regular basis I get asked “SO WHAT DO YOU REAL BENCH” and I can only weep softly.

Not to trying offend all the great benchers in the world, but to me, moving big weights with a close grip is more impressive…specially with agrip as close as yours, it just looks badass …and it makes your triceps estronger for the overhead works…awesome
^^^I have moved my grip in considerably after spinning my wheels trying to learn the “PL Bench Grip”…I got the idea from watching KK lift, and he has extremely long arms like me. Ive added 30 pounds to my bench since then and finally broke into the 400’s. I consider it a success.
my attempts didn’t go well, yesterday I hit 400x3, an easy 420x1 and then the first 4 inches of 440 before the weight just started falling back towards my face. I am trying to upload a shitty cell phone video of the successful 420 and the ugly pseudo staple at 440. I probably should have taken fewer warm up sets (oh and being stronger would be good too)
Eat a lot.
Pause your close-grips.
Kill triceps every session. Supersets, giantsets, etc.
Be realistic. Since you’re pretty damn strong, I suggest adding 10-15 lbs. a week. I bet you could get to 445 from 425 without a hitch. If anything, aim low. Then, on the last day, just go balls out and try and throw up as much weight as you can.
Since I’m doing C/P, I’ll just pick three pressing movements (CG bench, CG pause incline bench, and strict press from pins), hammer the shit out of those, and keep ALL other upper work as pumping stuff. 415x1 CG bench, 335x1 CG paused incline, and 265x1 pin strict press are the numbers I’ll hit this summer.

Thanks CS, I was already doing my CGBP more paused since its lighter weight. I am hoping the program will bring me to 445 like you said, 450 would be awesome Really would like to hit 450 before school starts in the fall so that I can spend this next year focusing on the remaining 50lbs to 500.
As for triceps, I definitely was doing extra work but was nervous to absolutely obliterate them. Do you think i should focus on triceps more on the heavy work day, or lighter day?

Heavy day. The light day is where you kill shoulders. I swapped light bench for OHP, but that’s just how I like to do it.

Gabriel, what weight class do you compete in, your pressing is pretty sick. Remember some vids in the Fb boi group.
what programs do you think impacted your bench the most. You also squat 600+ dont you? What is your squat training like?[/quote]
my bw is currently 300 flat. and i squat around 640. prolly gonna try for 650 and this upcoming meet. prolly shoot for 460 bench 475 if im feeling randy. honestly running sheiko 29 with a few personal mods has the biggest effect on my numbers. the progress is unreal once you get past the first cycle.
Sweet, I have a Sheiko Excel with all the #'s what do you mean by cycle. As in run 29 readjust maxes and then run it again? or like run 29 then a diff # readjust and then run again. Which 3’s are your fav. Do you have examples of the mods you put into #29.

i just like to run 29 then re max then run 29 again. the mod i did was change the deadlifting altogether to my own routine twice a week. right now i do 30 singles at 70% and im done. seems to be working well.
also, i dont NONE of the sheiko assistance work. if i need assistance i just determine that at the end of the session. usually its a little shoulder work.
Are you doing those 30 singles twice a week? or 30 over the week, 15 each session.
I was reading on some random site a theory about how if you can DL a weigh for 1, you can more than likely hit it twice due to the muscle reflex. Hence the gyms motto of never going past singles In DL’s theyll do 20+ singles, so you have to reset and perfect your form each time.
