As I just wrangled a 405 bench (@ 228 BW it’s not much but it’s mine). Might I suggest a race to the 500lb raw bench? I don’t know if there already is one of these in existence, if there is I didn’t find it, of course if there is just tell me where and then call me a lazy douche for not finding it on my own.

vids are necessary
I would like to give this a try as well, since I am not really close right now maybe this will be a motivator.
Highest Video I have, 75lbs to go.

I promise it’s 425 hah. Our tens just look super huge I have no idea why. Deflating lifts goes against the whole soul of the internet. I have taken a few decent shots at 500 in a slingshot and I’ve gotten 475 a few times in it and 485 once but 425 remains my highest raw I don’t check my max bench for another month.
470 is my highest but i lost 50 lbs somewhere.
currently im at a grinder 420.

What happened?
Im good for 435 touch and go. Did a 425 “paused” last week at the end of a session.
Becoming a big fan of that Hoonstra technique of almost creating a non stop motion during the pause by letting your chest in.
What style are you guys using in your pursuit for 500? I am giving the coan 11 week bench program a run to see what it does for me.

It doesn’t look like anything will make me stop CGing lol but we’ll see.

haha alright…yeah definitely looks like quarter plates, plus the name of the video is “alex455” so that was confusing…
I guess I will throw my hat in the ring here since I am in the 400’s now, but I don’t expect to hit 500 for a VERRRRRRYyyyy long time…I would actually rather get in a 450 thread since 500 is so far off…but I’ll participate here for now!
VT Im in the same boat as in more focused on 450 but whatever it leads to 500 so might as well just use this thread. Do you have a particular program you plan to use for your bench

5/3/1 lol
Half serious. I will be using this until my gains stall. For whatever reason, they have been exploding in the past few months as I’ve added 30 pounds to my bench in the past 5 months while I was in a fat loss phase, which I’m pretty happy about. I think adding in the incline and floor press assistance work really helped that out a lot.
Eventually I will move outside the realm of 5/3/1 but for now, it seems to be working for me for all my lifts (squat will probably be the first that I need to change up as gains there have been very slow lately).
As it’s written now I’ll be running smolov junior, then 5 weeks of supramaximal slingshot work high rep incline and dumbells…and then both of those again. The advice generally gets spottier and more subjective on the way to a 500 bench this combo has worked for me before so I’m going to give it a shot again.
I am using a version of the Dan John Easy Strength program, it seems like overkill but I bench 5 days a week (along with DL’s/squats, rows and curls) for either 2x5, 3x3, or 5x2. I get to keep the weights light (80% or so) and it seems to be working, I will video my current estimated max (445) on Tuesday and go from there, unless it crushes me, then I will delete my username and take up jogging.
count me in. 450 in gym. hit 495 with a slingshot on a few weeks ago

not sure…but i had a elbow problem for abit…but they are okay now.
Well, I’m in of course, but it might take me 2 or 10 years to get there. When my shoulders feel good I’ll generally put on 20 pounds or so to my previous PR, but that may only be one 8 week period a year. My 405x2 vid is in the “Let’s get to a 400 lb bench” thread and my log. When my shoulders are healthy I’m going to go with a close-grip and low reps and see where I need to go from there.

That close grip…badass
