Long limbed?
I’ve got short legs, my arms might be a little long for my height 5’8". Mostly I’ve just got to get used to doing heavy squats, not be afraid of weight on my shoulders. Always avoided squats because of that and never had proper instruction on them. Deadlift and bench are much more straight forward.

legit excuses for not entering a back squat into this race:

 1. back problems, which can be worked around somewhat with certain squat variations
 2. you have one or no legs

“I don’t know how to squat heavy” means either learn how, or get out.
x2 nobody taught me how to squat and now I’m a 500+lb squatter. The information is out there. There are tons of GOOD videos and articles on squatting technique.
I’m not making excuses. A 315 squat in June will be good progress towards handling heavier weights in the squat, which is why I’m here on T-Nation, and specifically this thread: To get stronger in Squat, Deadlift and Bench.
Just some tough love buddy. I want everyone here to get stronger and reach their goals.

Remember most of the people here are American and are using pounds not kilos.

Yeah, count me in for squats. Currently at 135kg which is 300#. Sucks being so close to 3 plates but not being able to stand it back up! Weak something somewhere in me.

Even worse when my deadlift is 200kg - 445#.

225 x 4 yesterday. WTF? I attempted a 5th rep and got stapled at the bottom. I will roll back my training max for the next cycle.

Could have just been bad timing but I’m still pissed about it.

On the bright side I finally ordered some adidas weightlifting shoes so that should help with my flexibility issues.

thats not the issue. I thought 3 plates per side was just 270 lbs mindfucked

2(3*45)+45=315.

With a standard 45lb bar, yes.
3 plates is 270. But unless you’re either putting 6 plates on your back, or gripping them in your hands, the bar weighs 45 and hence the 315 total.

Unless Im missing something in your comments.

Coming in a little late, but not too late I hope – this is right in my target zone. I’m in for both but def. closer on DL. I’ve been doing SS for the last couple of months, so far I’m up to 265 squat (3 reps), and actually attempted (and failed to budge) 315 DL in my last workout. Prev. max was 305 for 5.

I’m giving 315 DL another try tomorrow morning, we’ll see. Couldn’t move the damn thing off the ground last time.

ooooo so you just forgot about the bar lol

Iv just realized that i’ve NEVER counted the weight of the bar…though now that iv thought about it the whole day (and been SOOO mindfucked), i guess i’ll just go on like that. Iv gotten too used to it plus the numbers in my program don’t count the bar weight.

Is it still ok if i join this race to 315 squat and DL??

Just curious, did you start off with SS?

Permission granted…?

Damn, not including the bar, your internet lifts just went up 45 pounds instantly. Now thats progress.

Look at it this way, you just got a 45lb PR in all your lifts lol

@macmade – yeah, I started with SS. I have a training log on here you can check out if you want. Basically I’ve been lifting on and off for a while (~6 yrs) but I had gotten really out of shape last year and decided it was time to get back in the game, so I went back to SS at the beginning of Nov. My SS starting weight on the DL was 165, maybe a bit low but I slipped a disc some years ago and figured I should take it slow. I’ve been bumping up 20lbs per workout since then, until I got to 305 and decided to slow to 10.

And the big news for today is… I hit 315 for 2 today. First attempt didn’t move it, but I gave myself a kick in the ass and on the second attempt I got it up. But 2 reps was all I had in me.

260 SSB Box squat onto 12" today for 3.

Ooh I’m coming for you deadlift.

Haha, what I meant to ask was; I still wanna join the race to 315 but I wanna do it the way I’ve always done my lifting, without counting the bar. (???)
I pulled 285 in plates in Nov last year. If I count the bar, its 330lbs total. (Conventional)
With squats I can’t really remember the last time I tested my strength. Last I can recall I did 225lbs for 3 reps. If I add the bar its 270lbs. If I remember correctly my MAX last August was 225x1 which is 270x1.

Im not trying to show off or anything btw…

Everyone counts the bar in their total. You can enter the race any way you like but as soon as you say you can squat 270 we’re going to say congratulations, now go to a different thread.

ie 3 plates per side? Thats ok.

You always count the weight of the bar when adding up total weight. 3 45lbs plates is 315lbs.
