Hit 245 for one this week. Whoop Whoop.
When are you thinking you might be able to hit 315??
I think It will be at least 6 months to do that. I’ll be happy if I make it in 5 I plan to keep gaining weight so that should help. The layers have worked well so I’m using a working weight in low 200’s going to add 5 pounds to the cycle this coming week.Top set will be 225.
You are more optimistic than me. We are sitting at about the same strength level (guessing) and I am just hoping for it by the end of the year. Maybe I will surprise myself though. Good job so far man and good luck.
Lol, you’re both more optimists than me I guess. I’m sitting at about 280 and 315 in my year end goal.
My goal is actually 275 for 5. I am guessing that would equate to around about 315 1RM. Ha have you ever been to 315 at any point in your training life? By the way, you have one of my favorite logs to read, plan on mimicking a lot of what you are doing when my LP runs aground. Very well thought out programming.
I actually almost ran Ryan Kennelly’s Monster Bench program but my squat and dead numbers were so awful I couldn’t really feel right about focusing on my best lift.
Short version: former college football player, peaked with a 365x3 bench press at a bodyweight of 250 pounds as a college senior in 2007, decided to lose football weight and actually spent a few years as a moderately competitive long-distance runner (really) in which lifting became an “if I have time after I’ve done my running and/or biking for the day” proposition, have recently returned to pushing some moderately heavy iron, today bench pressed 275x2, current bodyweight 205 pounds. Not intending to gain any mass, goal is to reach 315 bench and a few other targets while holding steady around 200 pounds’ bodyweight.
Got it today (140kg paused)! I couldn’t use any leg drive due to back strain, so I’m really impressed with that. I have been doing 5x5 with straight weight through the sets every day of the week for a couple of weeks, as I couldn’t squat, and have gone from 5x5x105kg to 5x5x117.5kg in that time. Same bodyweight (93kg).
Did a grinder of a triple with 275 today. Was a little tougher than I hoped but the third rep made it up. We’ll see how the next few weeks go. I have a somewhat-arbitrary goal of hitting 315 by the time my family goes on a beach vacation in mid-July.

Sounds like you’re not that far away from that goal, AG!
Indeed, I am pretty close, but I’m working my way back into form a little bit and thus won’t be attempting a 1RM for a few weeks yet. I’ll probably go for a really heavy triple next Friday, take a deload week while my University gym is closed from 4/25 through 5/4 (I’ll be able to work out at home, just don’t have a full setup; I’ll do high-rep, hypertrophy-style stuff with my dumbbells at home, like 5x20 shoulder press, 5x20 curls, 5x20 chest flies) and then come back at it for the month of May. If things are going well, then I’ll attempt a single with 315 sometime in late May or early June.
