Question Regarding Biotest and NCAA

Hi there everyone, I’m new to the site, a college athlete (Football/Track), and have been looking over some of the supplements Biotest is selling for my next 1-2 month supply.

I’m currently taking EAS’ Myoplex when I can’t get a meal and post workout

Does anyone have any info regarding the legality of taking the Surge products in regards to NCAA regs? I’ve seen that quite a few people on here swear by the Biotest line and was just wondering if any of you knew (and if they are, which ones do you recommend? Do you recommend stacking certain products, etc.?)

Thanks in advance for the help.

I can’t speak for all of the Biotest supplements, but I’m confident you’ll be fine with the two Surge products. I’m pretty sure you’ll be fine with all of the Biotest supplements, but if in doubt, run it by one the trainers in your athletic department.

As for products I personally recommend and take regularly:

Flameout
Metabolic Drive
Surge Recovery
Surge Workout Fuel

Thanks for the quick reply, what worries me is when I see something like: Special Company X muscle building compound 5g**, and a cryptic ingredients label.

And you’re definitely right in that I should show our trainer, but he really pushes us to stay off any supplements that aren’t just protein. I also just found where to get the labels, hehe, couldn’t find it on the web page at first, so I’ll run through that and see if I can find anything on the NCAA website to confirm.

Will update if I find anything.

Use Surge recovery for post workout. Trust me (and I’m sure everyone here at T-Nation will concur). I wish I had it available when I was a college athlete.

In a way, I can understand where he is coming from. So many supplements (non-Biotest) are crap. But as for Surge, I can’t think of an ingredient he (or the NCAA) would frown upon.

Yeah, I get it as well, I’ve read at least a couple of articles over the past couple of years that have discussed “dirty” supplements, in that they work so well because they have ingredients other than those listed on the label, or in different concentrations.

The hype surrounding the Surge WO Fuel makes me wonder if there may be something in it that can be found under certain banned categories of substances.

In no way am I calling Biotest “dirty”, it seems like they do their homework with research and produce what works, but it just might not be accepted within the NCAA guidelines.

The banned substances list, found here:
http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/resources/file/ebb83308f4d9141/banned%20drugs%202008-09%2006-20-08.pdf?MOD=AJPERES&attachment=true

only lists examples of the banned substances in the respective categories. Nothing in the Surge WO Fuel matched any of the examples, but I’m still not sure if any of the ingredients would fall into any of the banned categories:

(a) Stimulants
(b) Anabolic Agents (anabolic steroids)
(c) Substances banned for specific sports
(d) Diuretics and other urine manipulators
(e) Street drugs
(f) Peptide hormones and Analogues
(g) Anti-estrogens

Obviously some of those are irrelevant to the product, but I thought I’d put the list here to provide some info for anyone who’s curious.

everything should be good except for 11-T since its hormonal. I compete under WADA rules, they should be similar to NCAA. Best bet still is to e-mail NCAA and ask. Or E-mail Biotest and ask them to provide documentation that this is okay to take a certain product under NCAA rules, so if anything goes amuck, you can show you have done everything in your power to ensure you did not knowingly break the rules.
