Question on Intensity

Did I blow last night’s workout or is this okay???

I worked out with such high intesity that I only finish HALF of the routine and I plan on going back tonight to finish it. Today is actually my off day.

OR~~~~

Should I have just lowered my intensity and finished the entire routine the same day?

Currently I am doing a modified version of the “Shut Up” routine. I am new to the split routine. Started the Shut Up program on 2-27-07. I have increased reps to assist in losing fat. My reps are 15, 15, 12, 12, 10.

Last night I was doing legs and lower back. The routine calls for Squats, Deadlifts, Leg Press, Leg Curls, Standing Calf, & Rotary Calf. Ive been working out, busting hump in the gym for the past 6 months so these exercises are no stranger to me.

Although last night was the 1st time in a VERY LONG time that I did squats [on the back slide machine] due to “cracking” knees. And I increased the weights on the deadlift, trying to get out of my comfort zone and push myself!!

My workout was sooooo intense all I could do was the squats, deadlifts, standing calf raises, and leg curls. Tonight I will go back to finish the leg press and rotary calf.

Am I slowing down progress by doing this? Should I have taken it a little easier and finished the entire routine?

Luckily this is not a normal occurance, and Im sure next week I’ll be ready to hit the entire routine in one night. I just wanted to get some feedback on this.

As Always, Thanks For Your Feedback!!

This isn’t a definitive answer by any means but I’ve found that this helped me.

This year I started to eat during my training sessions, not a proper meal (you’ll get a stitch) but I eat Muesli bars. I guess you could use something like Surge as it would digest quicker. If I’m having a good day I can set PB’s all through my session and I don’t really feel tired at the end.

Another thing to keep in mind is that intensity is relative. If your strength starts to drop, you may not perform as well but as long as you are doing the best that you can at that moment in time you have given maximum intensity and should be pleased with your effort.

Personally unless I’ve hurt myself or feel that I am about to hurt myself I would finish the routine as you lose the cumulative effect otherwise, that’s why most people will put the “important” exercises at the beginning.

Hope this helped a little.
