Today as I was opening what was perhaps my millionth can of tuna, I began to ponder how the hell that stuff is cooked before it’s canned. I don’t really know anything about the process of canning (nor do I think I would want to know the details), but I’d be interested in finding out what means they use to cook up this wonderful protein-packed foulness. Silly question I know…I’m all jacked up on MD6…it’s not my fault. Peace.
Canned tuna is raw. They just pasteurize it.
The tuna is sealed in the can raw, but the
cans are subsequently submerged in boiling
water to sterilize the contents. This prevents
it from rotting in the can.
re previous post … haha you make me laugh …
I worked in a salmon canning facility in Alaska for a few years (actually I worked in the roe processing plant, but I had a decent working knowledge of what happened in the cannery), and I’m sure tuna isn’t much defferent. The flesh is put in the cans raw, and then put in large containers that are wheeled into huge cylindrical cookers, where they are cooked. Occasionally a can would explode, which made for a very foul smell when they opened up the steam ovens.
How do many of you eat your tuna? Out of the can?(foul taste) or cook it or what?
I just mix it up with some mayo and relish, maybe some hot sauce. The mayo definitely kills the fishy taste.
I’m at a point where I could barely stand the taste of tuna. When I was a “rookie” I used to eat it out of the can. Now I either only eat it when I’m having a P+F meal or I drink it from the blender. The P+F meal I’ll mix it with Cambel’s cream of mushroom soup (automatically kills the taste). Or I mix it in the blender with 250 ml of water. It turns to liquid! haha. I know the blender seems a little extreme. The first time I heard of this I thought the guy who recommended it was insane. But its not half bad Correction, it still sucks but as least it goes down quickly and minimizes the pain of eating that stink 3 times a day EVERYDAY
Spanky>>That’s what I do!!!
I don’t put a lot of mayo so I guess it’s all goood…and it tastes good…
Out of the can,so tough to eat!
