i’m dropping some weight and at the moment i eat a lot of brocolli. it keeps me full, is fiborous and tastes good.
anyway, my question is when you use the taper method from JMB, does this mean that i can’t have brocolli (a pound of it) in a p+f meal?
a lb. of brocolli from trader joes is 20 carbs, 10 of which are fiber. is this ok to have with a p+f meal?
thanks
Why couldn’t you? If you’re sure about the macros, then you’re fine. 10 g. net carbs is the upper limit of a P/F meal. Not much different than mixed beans, which has a similar carb content per serving but due to the fiber and very low glycemic content it’s good to go.
That is a shitload of broccoli for one serving though!
ok thanks
yeah is there anything wrong with a lot of vegtables? brocolli especially. i just find it easier to diet if im able to stuff myself with food, and i can only do that with vegtables. they make up a large amount of my carbs (besides 1 and a half cups of oatmeal for 2 meals during morning)
Eat em all the time if you want.
NOBODY gets fat eating stuff like broccoli, it’s just not possible. That stuff is almost like a negative calorie food it’s so rough.
Only “problem” you may have with eating lots of it is the fullness aspect. Ie if you wanted to gain mass, it may be tough to do so while eating lots of broccoli or other rough veggies.
For losing fat though it works great.
Greens and vegetables have little caloric value. They also contain decent ammounts of fiber, tons of phytochemicals which prevent disease and may improve performance.
On top of this, as per John Berardi, most foods will produce a net acid in the body which reduces performance and puts the body in a mode where it breaks down muscle fibers for glutamine to neutralize the acid (or take calcium from the bones to do the same). This is obviously a no-no. Well, one of the few foods that neutralize this net acid in the body are vegetables - which is why they should ALWAYS be included in most meals. I would still keep the ammount of carbs per meal under 10 G, which shouldnt be a problem for you unless you plan on eating a whole pound of brocolli every meal.
Anyhow, I like the fact that you actually read the whole article and thought about it before posting a question.
