I’m hoping you can answer this one. I was talking to a kid at the gym today and he said that you shouldn’t take creatine and glutamine together because they will compete for absorbtion. I thought this was crap, but couldn’t explain the mechanisms of absorbtion to prove my point. He also said that taking creatine with anything other than carbs (i.e. protein) would hinder its absorbtion because it will stay in the stomach too long, breaking it down. Could you shed some light on this, or point me in the right direction as to where to look? Thanks.
I think this kid needs to explain more precisely what he means by “hinder absorption”. Does he mean that creatine and glutamine are competitive inhibitors? In that case, he’s wrong. Does he mean that the glutamine will “keep the creatine in the stomach longer” (a la his idea about non-carbs)? Still wrong, as virtually any commercially sold glutamine product is already pretty well broken down and will be absorbed quickly. Need more specific info here…
