lol@butt skin.
Dasher, you have do not have a large arse! Going by your avatar and other photos, your hips are relatively narrow. Now me, I have a 12" differential between waist and arse, and my arse has its own postcode. I guess I would look like Kim if I didn’t train.
Different strokes for different folks. About 3 months after my shoulder surgery, I had a guy tell me I looked so much better. I was too “cut” in the upper body before, he said. Hmm. Me. Nobody ever thinks I look too muscular. So it was a pretty odd unsolicited comment.

On the other hand, guys who love the “cut” look REALLY love it. I guess I play to a niche market, but luckily my husband is firmly in that niche.

Am I the only one that wants to punch people in the face for unsolicited comments? I will happily accept anything along the lines of “You look great” but don’t understand some peoples urge to critique without request.

definitely not the only one.
i play the situation as i see it… either point out their flaw, or what happens just as often is someone telling me i’m too big/bulky/muscular/etc. (usually only happens in my hometown.)
in the case of the latter, ive come to see the thrill in saying that i’m now a candidate for sexual reassignment surgery and i’ve started taking massive amounts of testosterone and other drugs. then i ask if they wanna see my dick.
no takers yet.

dang girl! Mine is 10.5. I wouldn’t mind it so much if most of it wasn’t something you can pinch, kwim?..
And by pinch, I mean grab a handful.
No back of the hand bb’er lean for me.

LOL!!
I have a question for you ladies…kinda interrupts all of the butt-size talk, sorry! LOL
I am thinking of competing in a local competition in NY. It is a deadlift/bench competition and I have programmed my 5/3/1 schedule perfectly to hit the PRs that I want. However, I see that there is VERY little competition in a lighter weight class than what I’m in. I could set a NY state record in the 114 lb. class if I hit my intended PRs. Instead of comfortably competing at 123, I would have to cut to 114. How do you ladies feel about cutting weight in competitions? When I used to train jiu jitsu, I hated that people did that and felt it was cheap/sandbagging. Plus, I could probably hit a larger number PR if I could continue gaining weight up until then but of course there are a lot stronger girls in the 123 weight class. The competition is in November and I currently weight about 125.
Short story: How do you feel about cutting 10 pounds in a powerlifting competition in order to bring home a trophy ![]()
OH MAN…cutting weight has been a biggie here lately in my neck of the woods. Lots of mud slinging over the legit status of someone cutting weight. I have a pretty close friend who cuts about 10-12lbs before each meet and I havent a problem in the world with it. I usually try to hit the 132’s and often go to bed 139. Before meets I try to zone in a bit on diet. I think its part of the game.
Ah alright, that makes me feel a lot better. It’s my first time entering the world of powerlifting and I honestly just didn’t know how others felt on the topic although I figured most people cut weight. 12 pounds is excessive and I’m worried I might feel weak, but I guess I will just have to find out!
do you know how far ahead of time you can weigh in?
evening before
beautiful! You should be fine.
There’s nothing wrong with cutting weight. Like Dasher said, it’s part of the game. However, for a first meet, I’d just go in and lift. Don’t worry about cutting. There a ton of variables that you can’t account for if you’ve never lifted in a meet. My advice is get one under your belt before you worry about the rest.
That is a good point. I do want to perform my best…ahh I don’t know! I am so nervous haha That is actually the main reason I want to do it, just to get the nervous part out of the way for future meets.
Despite having 24 hr weigh ins, it would have to be something absolutely epic for me to try to cut 10lbs to make weight. Like a pro total or a big chunk of change for the winner. (neither of which will ever happen for me)
There’s nothing wrong with it. I just think its a pain in the ass and I suck at it. I also think it has affected my performance in the past.
I wouldn’t make the cut but if you do want to, you should be dieting down and within a few pounds of your weight class by the time the meet rolls around. And remember that weight loss can negatively affect strength.
If I do decide to cut the weight, I definitely would be making major adjustments to my diet. I eat whatever I want right now. Ice cream, cookies, lots of carbs, etc. so I think I could easily lose a lot with diet. But yes, a big concern of mine is losing strength. I’d hate to get up there and miss all of my lifts because I felt the need to lose so much weight. I guess I am going to have to think about my priorities and make a decision.
I’ve done water cut many times for a PL meet. I’ve done it right and I’ve done it wrong. If you’re trying to cut more than 5% of current weight, you will most likely run into a strength loss issue. The most I’ve lost the week prior to a meet is about 8 lbs and I’m in a heavier weight class than you are at this point.
I agree if it’s a first PL comp, stay in the 123’s. You really don’t how you will perform physically and mentally yet.
