Q & A, PW Style

Hey SP! I use straps b/c I’m working on pulling everything overhand these days (for Oly). But I would use them for BB rows or Kroc rows if I had too…

I use these old school Oly straps. Here’s a blurb on them:

“Olympic weightlifting straps differ from conventional straps in structure and functionality. Conventional straps work like a choke chain around the wrist and can cause rope burn or chafing. They also lock you into a specific hand position on the bar, leaving you no way to adjust without completely unwrapping the straps. Olympic straps give the lifter more freedom to adjust positioning, all while remaining fully locked in and strapped to the bar comfortably.”

Thanks Dani and Masch. I’ll look into those. I have these ridiculously small wrists so triples at 215# only works once or twice before my hand no longer closes

Hopefully doing more forearm work coupled with some straps to get me through the last few sets will help out.

Thanks again

I use the choke type straps and, while they seemed awkward at first, I can use them well now. I have stick wrists too. I don’t use them for regular dead lift or most lifts. They are awesome for kroc rows and snatch grip deads though. Keep working grip strength though. There are a lot of ways to do it but mostly it’s just time.

SP, you should be a hand model. Beautfiul hands!

<----makes not to never shake ouro’s hand. Damn!! Thanks for the input. I’ll look into that

Thanks Cal. It genetics  Unfortunately, I only have a few more good years before the arthritis sets in. Stupid genetics!!!

Aren’t MEAL plans supposed to take the thinking out of the picture? That’s why it’s a MEAL plan, right?

Sorry, that’s multiple questions, they just kind of rolled all into a mini-rant.[/quote]

I keep thinking about this one. I think the easiest thing to do if you don’t want to think about your nutrition, is to eat the same foods nearly everyday. Put a typical day into fitday and mess with it until you get your calories and macros where you want them, weather it’s maintenance or a deficit or whatever. Boring, but it will keep you on track. For example, I’m experimenting with doing some really low carb days to try to lean out my legs. I want my carbs between 60-70 grams, and my fats at about 35 grams, then protein for the balance. I’m eating almost the exact same foods on those days so I don’t have to do the math, and I don’t accidentally get off kilter.

You have to do a bit of thinking up front, but then it’s done and you know what you need to do. If you think about it, that’s all these programs like Jenny Craig do, right? They figure out how many calories you need and then you have the meals that keep you in that range.

Doing the same thing is fairly easy for breakfast and lunch because I can be really routine about them and not get bored. I always do some variation on a salad with meat for lunch. Dinner is harder because I’m cooking for my husband and kids and I sometimes have to eat something different, or tweak my meal there to stay on track. Eating is social at that point, and I want to sit down and eat with everybody, which means I sometimes have to watch them eat stuff that isn’t on my plan.

I think a lot of people who maintain their weight are pretty basic with food. Not a lot of variety, because it’s just easier.

And SP, those are pretty hands, but I’m guessing there are some callouses on the other side.

What’s with men referring to women in general as bitches. Is that ok? Doesn’t it denote an underlying contempt for women even in jest?

Once or twice I can understand but always doesn’t sit well with me. How do you guys feel?

a no-no.

That’s like referring to them as fucktards or dickheads all the time. Once or twice is funny. To often is insulting.

Hm. Yeah, I’m generally not a fan of men calling women bitches. Particularly if its a man who displays misogynistic overtones more generally.

I do think its context specific though. Like if its a friend of mine is saying that “bitches be crazy” or how the “bitches are all over him” or some other colloquialism that’s part of their cultural repertoire and within the context of our safe, comfortable friendship. But I’d definitely call out a male friend if he outright called a woman a bitch to her face!

What do you guys think about other women calling each other sluts, bitches, etc.? I admit I do this A LOT…on the TN and in RL…

Do not like.

I have a tendency towards a gutter mouth and try to dial it back. If I let that sort of thing go, it snowballs.

I’m not so hot on that either. But my reasons is to me it sounds whigger-esque. Straight up. I don’t think its really offensive but dweeby. in my opinion

Now, That term (whigger) might be insulting–not to white people but to the original term its from maybe?!, and I think it is but its how best to describe my own take.

Just kinda like…c’om…really? My Bitches? Nah…so many cooler sisterly terms you can use.

Hmm…well, in this case, and because I respect the PW compound and LURV our brutiful Brute, I will make it my duty to clean up my language and find more sisterly ways to refer to all the ladies here and in my everyday life. Woot!

AW!!! I don’t take anything YOU say in a bad way ever–because you are a lovely!! I just personally think there are lots of cooler ways.

Me personally, I think when girl friends call each other whore, bitch face, etc and what not as a term of endearment is lame too. not that its insulting but…its just lame. However it does make me feel superior as I roll my eyes at them in my head. Silent Elitism makes me smile inside…

that begin said I wholeheartedly admit that other things people call me will give them priority in my mind. I am sucker for someone calling me sunshine, Sweetheart, that type of thing in a genuine way.

SUCKER! I melt when old ladies say I’m a sweetheart. I’ll carry your groceries! I’ll mow your lawn!! Old man calling me Honey, why yes I will sit and talk to your all afternoon!

Darlin’ gets me every damn time

Good tips from a strong, female deadlifter.

Also, I belong to another forum that has a “Strongest Man” Thread. It’s categorized by weight class and wilks score. I think we should do that here! (Strongest woman of course) I’ll start a thread if there’s some interest.

I remember Nia! She used to log on figure athlete. Tiny tiger for sure!
