There are people on this site I would keep coming here to talk to even if I never touched a piece of training equipment again. In fact if I knew they were here before I started lifting again it would be well worth it to be here. Also there are people here who I genuinely care about. That doesn’t require diligent lifting. However, this idea is still good for thread. I apologize for my contribution to having taken it off topic. And DoubleDeuce? Not a big deal and you don’t owe me any explanation. Jist givin my view. Ol Doc is one of my oldest friends here though I believe he has since disowned me. That’s ok. Won’t stop me from liking him anyway.

I gotta say though guys. Professor X doesn’t deserve any disrespect when it comes to training. He can be a butthead sometimes, but so can I. He’s one of the longest standing members and still one of the biggest guys around here. He and I have always had a foundationally similar training philosophy of pragmatic simplicity and intuitive hard work too. (in a nutshell). I have many fond memories here with him as well. He’s helped a lot of guys over the years here too. I dunno. I just don’t like it. Not that anybody should have any particular reason for caring, but there it is. PWI stuff is another story lol.

I didn’t mean to disrespect anyone. I’m fatter, smaller and probably weaker than he is. I was only pointing out we all have different goals. Not fitting into someone else’s ideas of real lifting is nonsense. X likes bodybuilding, BUT bodybuilding includes getting really really lean. That part isn’t important to him. He cares about being large and muscular. Which is fine, but not having the same goals as a bodybuilder doesn’t mean he shouldn’t post in the bodybuilding forum.
For example, right now my #1 goal is just getting healthy. I’m losing size and some strength right now. Doesn’t mean I shouldn’t post in any of the strength forums.
? Bodybuilding involves gaining extremely large muscles before worrying about being super lean…not to mention I am not fat right now so I don’t get the comment. I spent about a year just working on conditioning and not losing muscle mass. I did that.
I responded earlier to a poster who clearly wrote:

Yes, I would say it is not strange for someone to wonder why people who “don’t lift much” spend so much time on a forum like this.
I didn’t say ANYTHING about having the same goals. I didn’t say anything about all of us meeting the same standard.
I will say that someone who doesn’t take it seriously at all or who “doesn’t lift much” will likely have little in common with me.

Pat, good luck on your back recovery. After hurting my back a couple of times, I stopped doing free squats and deads. Sucks, but at least I’m still making progress, sans the injuries.
Keep the numbers coming, haven’t heard anything yet from Tiribulus, orion, Brother Chris, Sloth, kamui, Mufasa, Forbes, raj, PB Andy…
lol.
ahem
ahem
Bodyguard must have overlooked a couple (I think orion may have posted on the first page, and we have since heard from a couple guys, but not others). He also forgot to add Maximus to the list. Or maybe he just considered Maximus’s “contributions” to the first page to actually be relevant. I dunno the guy, so I won’t speak for him.
I also didn’t catch the stats of some others, like countingbeans (though I know he actually lifts), fightingirish (he’s a scrappy bastard), and a couple of the “newer” posters like USMCD. So strange how every single thread in this forum gets a nod from some of these guys, except for this one.
The Bodyguard has long since been hit with the BAN-hammer…long gone.

which is irrelevant to my post…

Great edit. “actually I lift daily” was also in the quote.
Point being, you don’t know people. Could be a 70 year old former powerlifting champion who’s still working out with 20kg dumbbells. Could be a guy with cancer on aggressive chemo. Or some soldier who got their legs blown apart, learning to walk again. Serious lifting is different for everyone. There is a large portion of the people on this forum who don’t think you should have much to say about bodybuilding because their definition is different than yours.
I just see it as arbitrary and hypocritical to try and set some idea of what is or isn’t serious lifting.
So X, what are your best lifts?
Though I’ve never liked the idea of running people outta here, I also didn’t like the idea of T-Nation becoming a haven for “underwear models” either. Professor X and I used to talk about this all the time. The T-Cell was started to have a place where serious discussion about serious training could take place unfettered by guys who “don’t wanna be huge”. I will not hypocritically say that I don’t see Doc’s general point, but a couple things. The training and nutrition forums don’t necessarily have anything to do with PWI. As long as somebody is not cluttering up those forums with useless threads and or posts, who cares what they do here?
Also, it is clear that T-Nation has opted to popularize more over the time I’ve been here and while I do lament that fact, they are not running a charity around here and must do what makes them money. The fault lies with the zumbafied populous not this site for whom there was no longer a viable market in it’s exclusively hardcore incarnation.
Oh yeah Doc. I tried hard to get your input on letting someone into the T-Cell which I haven’t done in a long time, but due to your utter refusal to contact me I exercised my best judgement and let her in. It’s been pretty dead in there, but even if not she would be a worthy addition in my opinion. Aragorn won’t contact me and neither will you. I haven’t seen MaloneTD in forever. So I took it upon myself.
Since I must apparently post my gym numbers in order to be considered worthy to post here, here we go. I started lifting almost 4 years ago at the age of 32 and a body weight of 120 lbs dripping wet. I now weigh 183 as of this morning. I was heavier, but I have been dieting down for my wedding which is just a couple of weeks away. My current lifts as of last week are:
bench press: 245x8
squat: 375x7
deadlift: 395x6
overhead press: 195x3
I know these are unimpressive, but am I allowed to continue posting?
Seems my comment was a little bit too provoking, I apologize that. I’m back to lifting this autumn after a longer break. The 20 kg db is for my weakest bodypart, to keep it under a daily but manageable stress.
UtahLama wrote:<<< The Bodyguard has long since been hit with the BAN-hammer…long gone.
Hold on, when do this happen?

Not bad at all doc
Best lifts:
500x3 gm
600 raw dl (had more but canned it for day)
440 raw bench
600 lb shirted 2 board
400+ front squat
585 rev. Band front squat (strong)
Olympic Back squat something. Not maxed
225 lb power snatch
270 x 3 push press
150 lb x 35 kroc row
155 x 6 barbell curl.
Do I win the approval of VTballa to post in PWI yet?
Wow, everybody’s stronger than I am. Very good Aragorn. I wish you’d email me though.

My name certainly seems to be coming out of a lot of people’s mouths lately whom I have never had any interaction previously. Kinda makes me feel like a mini-celebrity in ya’lls little ol’ corner of the interwebz. I am humbled!
Pretty good lifts man. You may continue.

Whew, just barely. I mean, you didn’t provide a measurement of your arms. Maybe you should be on some kind of PWI probationary period until you can post pics of 20" arms?
Just kidding, of course. Nice work on these lifts, very impressive.

How are you overhead pressing so much??? Do you have some kind of mad scientist, physics trick to it? Your overhead press strength looks like it’s nearly 70% of your bench. Mine isn’t even 60%!
