Push Ups & Bench Press

How Much similar are bench press and push ups? I am making a home full body workout and I don’t have access to bench press but I can do push ups.

They are 180 degrees different. Other than that they are very similar.

Pushups are a great exercise and are generally underutilized.

On the other hand, bench pressing is the ghey. Wikipedia reports that no single cool person still bench presses today.

To answer your question, pushups will be a great alternative to bench pressing.

weighted pushups are a good option-can you buy a bench and dumbbells?

yeah im going to get dumbbells and I dont know if im going to have space for a bench yet.

get adjustable dumbbells (powerblock)…how much space are we talking here? Is a gym membership out of the question or what?

I was going to the gym but I work full time and I don’t have a car yet so i had to take the bus which was extremely time consuming… and i realized i could workout all my muscles with dumbbells…

don’t forget the legs also.

Search for Getting Big with Kettlbells or something such on elitefts.com by Mike Mahler. You can switch out kettlebells for dumbells on pretty much all excecised. And you can do floor presses if you don’t have a bench.

If you do push-ups to the extent that they are as hard as a bench press, you will fuck up your wrists, unless you perform them on your knuckles.

go with the adjustable dumbells…they’ll save ya a tonne of space, buy some push up bars, they’ll keep your wrists in better shape when you do weighted pushups… If you have no room for a bench, grab a ball (their like $4)…they do a pretty good job for dumbell work, (just can’t use real big weight on them), and tak up little space.

Yeah thanks for everyones help… for the push ups i am going to get a pair of squared dumbbells and do push ups with that… i’ll write out my complete routine in the next couple of days also.

I just wanted to say that this line made me totally ROFLcopter.
