Pulled Ab?

a few months ago I did “something” to my obliques…i think.
I have had x-rays and ultra sound done and they saw nothing. I also had my appendix removed years ago.

Basically I have an always present tight/dull ache feeling to the right of and bellow my belly button and towards the hip, in the area my oblique would attach to bone. Then on the top side of the oblique near the ribs I get occasional sharp pain.

The sharp pain is worse if I take a deep breath, the tightness is worse if i am sitting and lean forward.

Does this sound like a pulled muscle to you? Anyone have experience with a pulled ab? I have searched and found very little for ab rehab.

It did almost go away once, then I did “something” again and it got bad again. It is getting better now but still…months? that can’t be right, are abs just that hard to heal?

thanks,
Rek

Just guessing but torn or herniated perhaps?

have you tried any anti-inflammatory’s?
Surely a doctor should’ve been able to give you an answer?

you would think so wouldn’t you…
I’ve actually seen 3 doctors (it is a clinic) and not one of them has even done a physical exam of it.

They just guess and test. Educated guess…but guess imo.

First they did x-ray in case it was a blockage, it wasn’t and said it must be constipation. I know it isn’t because I go often, but i slowly increased my fiber and nothing helped. So one day to prove it was not that I drank 2 cups of prune juice and sat on the can all day. Doc said it was a great idea because the pain was still there so it must be something else.

They then guessed it was diverticulitis (sp?) i had stool samples, bloodwork and ultrasound. They found nothing. i left that meeting without any clear path for what is next.

So now i’m, looking at it myself to see if i can see what should be next and ask for it.

Someone suggested IBS but it feels more muscular to me.

Well I have a different suggestion for you…

I suspect it could be an adhesion formed between your old appendix scar (internal) and the inside of your abdominal wall.

Alternatively, it may be an adhesion between the different layers of your abs (int. Vs ext. obliques) caused by the actual incision made during the appendix removal.

So the first one involves part of your intestine attaching to your abs and the second involves your abs sticking to themselves.[/quote]

Thanks for this input. Any idea how someone would diagnose this?

Ironically, adhesions are usually confirmed if/when you are opened up (again) for something else. Get them badly enough and they can constrict the bowel, which can mimic an assortment of bowel disorders. Fun stuff!

A skilled person can sometimes palpate them, but it won’t be a pleasant experience.
