Pull/Chin Up Bar

I’d like to purchase a pull up bar that fits into doorways or maybe off a wall? I have a limited budget but would hope not to spend any more than $40-$45. I started looking at reviews online and some people had problems with bars falling. Didn’t know if this was- user error in installation or poor mounting design?

Also, would prefer something padded, my grip is horrible & my hands are almost always in sore or in pain (reynauds phenomenon & electrenic drums) I think padding would help. Any ideas or suggestions?

I have owned three. Never had one fail. Must be the installer. I think I paid $20-30 at Sportmart. I prefer to tape up my pull up bars but don’t know if that will be enough for you.

I got a Sport’s authority one for 10 bucks it hangs on a doorway and say it can support up to 200lbs. Although I had a 245 lb friend hang from it and it held so I’m pretty confident in it. Had it 3 years so far.

$22 CDN from Canadian Tire. Never had it fail. Agree with the tape thingy. Use hockey tape for a better grip especially with sweatty hands.

Neya,
I have had trouble with my grip in the past, do to various overuse injuries. I found that using a 2x4 with rounded edges helps alot. I actually have one I mounted on edge over my power rack at home. My grip is challenged in a different way then trying to wrap my hands around a skinny bar. Padding might only make gripping and staying on the bar harder. Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone ^^

When you install the bar, just ensure that you have it bolted into solid studs. I have had a few different bars over the years, and the only time any of them have failed is when they were not installed correctly.

For grip, adding much in the way of padding just makes it harder to hold on. Try getting some decent gloves, or lay a towel over the bar.

Neya,

If you are looking for a bar that can come off the wall and be mobile, I would suggest you buy the door gym. I picked one up about a month ago and it is great. Cost me about $40, but is is mobile and you and also use it to do pushups and situps. I love it.
