PRP and Insurance Payement

My ortho told me that most insurance companies do not cover platelet rich plasma injections in the USA. That said, has anyone successfully convinced their insurance provider to pay for the PRP treatment?

Here is my train of thought, cardio is universally accepted as healthy so the chronic tendonitis in my knee is preventing me from doing cardio and becoming more healthy as I definetly over the recommended BMI?

Mods, I would prefer that this stayed in GAL, if possible.

Most likely you will need to suck up the cost yourself.

My othropedic doc told me the same thing. But in the case of surgery, if they do the PRP injection at that time, it would be covered. This can vary from plan to plan for sure.

It’s worth asking about since more plans now accept it by itself and only a pre-authorization mey be required.

I had it done and it was covered and I have united health care.
