Protein

since being on these forums, ive noticed some people are on mass amounts of protein, i was quite surprised really (some taking up 300 grams etc). I would say i average 100 grams a day.

I know the body has a difficulty digesting protein, and can only consume 50grams or so at a time. My question is, would i benefit with upping my protein consumption, i mean can the human body really digest all that protein in a day? or does some of it just flow out in your piss. (if the answer is yes, then my other question is, whats the max amount of protein the body can consume in a day)

Ok well first of all your are NOT going to piss out extra protein its a macro nutrien just like any other and it will do 1 of 3 things be burned as energy, stored as fat or Idealy its amino acids will be used in the reparing of damaged muscle tisue! (Hopefully new growth with the proper stimulation of course)

And there are people on here eating more than 300 I would Imagine! I eat 300 grams a day and Im only 170 pounds right now! The human body Can digest all that protein, Anything that is ingested MUST be Digested the question then is What is it used for! which I alredy explained!

A good rule of thumb is to eat one grame of protein per pound of bodyweight! and thats just for maintainig your curent muscle mass while dieting you want to ingest closer to 2 grams per pound of bodyweight! So I hope that sheds some light on your question! But as you said the body can digest 50 grams at one sitting so if your eating 5-6 meals a day the way you should be then you should be hetting up around 250grams to 300 a day!

dave.

nice reply dave.

I know what do

I have been told (I don’t know for a fact, but it sounds like a good rule of thumb). The body can only take 60 grams per sitting. So you cant chug 100gs worth of protein shakes…you gotta space it out over the day. But yea 300g isnt that crazy

It probably depends on how big you are and how much muscle mass you have, but i’ve also heard it’s best to spread it out throughout the day.

There’s a guy on here (in T-Cell alpha), can’t remember who he is, but during his bulk he’s eating 600g of protein a day (I think he’s around 300lbs, so it’s 2xbodyweight).

I have trouble with 1xbodyweight (200g for me), but I try and hit that goal everyday. A lot of authors recommend 1.5xbodyweight or more. It definitely seemed pretty crazy to me when I started.

I tried 300g a day (40g/day from protein shake, rest from real food) for two weeks and I felt very sluggish. Now I’m getting about 200g (I weigh 205) and feel like it works better for me. Everyone’s different so give it a try and see what happens.

And I think that would be a BIG hint to people reading this that to get big you need to eat big. 180 lb guys don’t need 600 grams of protein, but 2xbodyweight in protein along with sufficient calories over 6+ months and you’ll be very happy.

Well said Scott.
