Protein Shake Timing

Wasn’t sure if this was best suited to the beginner section, this section or the dumb question section, I hope I got the right one haha.

Ok so before recently, I used to have a Whey shake 30mins before my workout and immediately after it. As of last week, I’ve started doing some HIIT at the end of my normal workout because I thought that going 2 years without doing an ounce of cardio was fucking ridiculous. This brought me to my post workout shake problem. Would it be wise to take it after the weights then hit the cardio or after I have done both? I don’t know an awful lot about nutrition so I’m not sure if timing it wrong would make the shake a waste and not be used for what is desired. Maybe it would be better to do the cardio then the weights then the shake?

If anyone could shed any light on this probably quite unnecessary mind fuck of mine, I’d be very appreciative.

Thanks!

You should add some sort of simple carb to that shake pre workout. (ie. dextrose, maltodextrin, waxy maize). I would wait until after your HIIT to have the second shake.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks cally.

To be honest, this doesn’t matter in the big picture. You should make sure that you consume at least 100 grams of protein and 100 grams of carbs during your peri-work-out window (assuming that muscle gain and awesomeness are your goals).

It’s not forbidden to sip your concoction DURING your work-out. It’s in fact beneficial for recovery, so I would recommend that you’d have started your second or 3rd shake by the time you do the cardio.

Happy growing!

Muscle and awesomeness is definitely my goal! The thought of having something during a workout, never actually crossed my mind. It will be something I do from now on. Thanks
